(Haipo) – The Shin Bet, Israel Police, and the IDF arrested three soldiers and a civilian on suspicion of working for Iranian intelligence while they were minors, before their enlistment in the IDF. Among the tasks they performed were: photographing sites across the country and documenting the Air Force Technical School in Haifa, where some of the suspects studied. Today (Friday, 8/5/26) serious indictments were filed against them at the Haifa District Attorney's Office.
Joint arrest by Shin Bet, police and IDF exposes Iranian spy network
In a joint operation by the General Security Service, Lt. Col. "Merhav Asher", Lahav 433 in the Israel Police, and the Israel Defense Forces, three soldiers and one civilian were arrested during March 2026 on suspicion of having long-term ties with Iranian intelligence elements and carrying out missions under their direction. According to the investigation, one of the operatives worked to recruit the other defendants, and as part of their activity they carried out various photography missions throughout the country and were even asked to purchase weapons. Some of the defendants even approached the Iranian operator on their own initiative to carry out additional security missions.
Documentation of sensitive sites and property damage
As part of the missions they carried out, the defendants documented and transmitted to the Iranian operators images and videos of various sites, including train stations, shopping centers and security cameras. The suspects also documented the Air Force Technical School in Haifa, where some of them studied. In addition, some of the defendants were involved in vandalism of property as part of their connection with Iranian elements. Today, the Haifa District Attorney's Office filed serious indictments against all those involved in the affair.
Security agencies warn: Terrorists continue attempts to recruit Israeli citizens
According to the security agencies' statement, this case joins a series of recent cases that demonstrate repeated efforts by terrorist and hostile intelligence elements to recruit Israeli citizens to carry out missions intended to harm the security of the state and its residents. The security agencies reiterate their warning to Israeli citizens and residents against maintaining contact with foreign elements and carrying out missions for them, and emphasize that law enforcement agencies will act to severely punish all those involved in such activity. The public is asked to report any suspicious request from an unidentified entity to carry out missions to the Shin Bet or the Israel Police.
