Shiri, Rana and Doni – Three Stories of Rescue and Rescue
The three sea turtles that will be released arrived at the National Sea Turtle Rescue Center after being injured under various circumstances:
Shiri, a female brown sea turtle, was injured by a beached turtle in the Shikmona area and was rescued by Haifa Marine Police and inspectors from the Marine Unit of the Nature and Parks Authority at the beginning of the year.
Rana, a brown sea turtle, became entangled in fishing lines in Bat Galim in November 2025 and was rescued by a citizen.
Donnie, a young green sea turtle, was injured by a plastic bag in Rosh Hanikra earlier this year and was rescued by divers from the "Potsker" diving club.
The three turtles underwent a full rehabilitation process at the National Sea Turtle Rescue Center, and after recovering from their injuries, they are ready to return to their natural home in the Mediterranean Sea.
The public is invited to a liberation experience at Bat Galim Beach
The sea turtle release event will take place at Bat Galim Beach in Haifa on Wednesday at 14:00 PM, and admission is open to the general public. This is a unique opportunity for residents of Haifa and the surrounding area to watch up close the exciting moment when sea turtles return to the sea after the lengthy rehabilitation process they have undergone. The stories of Shiri, Rana, and Doni reflect the various hazards that sea turtles have to deal with – from damage from the shore to plastic waste and fishing lines – and the great importance of the rescue and rehabilitation operations carried out by the Nature and Parks Authority and the National Center for Sea Turtle Rescue.
