Going to the beach after the storm?
Look for beached sea turtles and help save them!
Following the storm and the high seas that plague us, injured sea turtles are washed away with the currents and washed ashore. In the last two days, we received at the National Center for the Rescue of Sea Turtles 5 turtles that were ejected and found by vigilant citizens
How do you help them?
- Did you find a sea turtle alive or dead on the beach? Take a picture of the turtle, keep an exact location and report it in real time to the Nature and Parks Authority hotline 3639*.
- Stay with the turtle until you receive instructions from the rescue center (sometimes the turtle appears dead because of the cold and it is necessary to perform a vital check under our guidance).
- Wait with the turtle for the arrival of a volunteer/inspector who will take it to the rescue center or bring the turtle to us after the report.
- Do not under any circumstances try to return the turtle to the sea! A sea turtle washed ashore needs medical attention. Even if he looks intact on the outside, most likely he is suffering from internal injuries, for example pneumonia, head injury or hypothermia.
