17 years old on board the ship
I arrived in Haifa in October 1961, a boy between 17, a new immigrant from Romania, on board the Greek ship "Hermes".
Later, I completed my studies inCornerstone", a well-known private evening school, housed in several basement rooms on Nordau Street. The school was run by Mr. Ibn Pina - a well-known figure in Haifa at the time, a distinct revisionist with a heavy Yikke accent.
In 1966, after my military service, I began studying architecture, which then took place in the historic Technion building in Hadar Carmel.
Degree followed degree, and thus I also completed the third degree at the Technion, while belonging to the teaching staff at the academic institution, and at the same time I was engaged in architectural planning in my office. I had the privilege of designing several buildings in Haifa over the years.
Although today I live in Kiryat Motzkin, Haifa was and remains the center of life for me: its architecture, its scenery and its people fascinate me, which I like to document and write down at every opportunity.
The Technion building in Hadar Carmel

The historical building and the memories
The historic Technion building, where I studied architecture (1966-1971).
A building full of nostalgic memories, around it developed a vibrant student life that radiated to the entire Hadar Carmel neighborhood. The entrance through the main, wide stairs, inspired majesty and pride to everyone who came through the building's gates.
In the plaza of the building, the students prepared, every year, the performances of the "Archiperchitura" procession that marched on Purim along Herzl Street in the Hadar neighborhood, to the delight of all the residents of Haifa and its children, and at the head of it marched with the genius of the mythical mayor of Haifa, The late father Khushi.
The Purim celebrations would end with the traditional costume ball of the Faculty of Architecture, in which the serious stone building would be "disguised" as a colorful, noisy and especially happy entertainment complex.

Good memories from the past, no doubt it's exciting.
And the paintings are very beautiful
I feel a personal and very special obligation to mention my admiration for those very impressive and very special painting works done by the extremely talented David Bar-on-Oman.
Many of David's paintings are about the city of Haifa, which include special buildings from different periods, figures in different activities, events around the city, in short a great mosaic of paintings in multiple and interesting fields. The beautiful and special thing in David Bar On's paintings is the wonderful combination of colors in the colorful paintings, light colors for the observer that are so pleasant to look at. Of course the drawings are in black and white, I also really like them.
I am sure that David Bar On's wonderful drawings will add a lot to the Haifa News newspaper, because I think that their inclusion in this special newspaper will give each of the readers a feeling of belonging to our city of Haifa.
I would like to wish from here all my friends and acquaintances and all other Haifa thinkers, a happy and sweet new year and most importantly good health to all of us.
And let's not forget to protect ourselves from the corona epidemic, with face masks, keeping a distance from people and washing hands.
Beautifully written, really nostalgic. Thank you.
