(Haipo) – The Haifa Local Planning and Building Committee approved at its meeting on Monday to advance the plan to expand the Rambam Medical Center, which is being promoted by the Israel Land Authority. The plan includes additional building rights and floors, the regulation of buildings for demolition and preservation, the planning of a commercial facade facing the coastal promenade and an underground entrance that will lead directly to the emergency room.

Doubling hospital beds and strengthening the hospital's status
The approved plan is intended to strengthen Rambam's status as a super hospital, serving the residents of Haifa and the entire northern region. As part of it, the scope of medical activity will be expanded significantly, and the number of hospitalization beds is expected to increase from 976 today to approximately 1,875 in the target year. This expansion will strengthen Haifa's status as a leading medical center and as a regional anchor providing medical services to a wide population in the north of the country. In addition, the plan will add areas for clinics, research institutes and additional medical services, laboratories, technical areas, training centers for medical, nursing and paramedical staff, a hotel for patients and their families, as well as parking areas.
Expansion of the complex area and planning of new infrastructure
In order to implement the plan, approximately 5.7 dunams will be added to the hospital area to the west, bringing its total area to approximately 101 dunams. The plan also includes additional building rights and floors, regulation of buildings for demolition and preservation, planning a commercial frontage facing the coastal promenade in the northern part of the complex, and an underground entrance from Navy Street that will lead directly to the hospital's emergency room. In addition, the plan regulates the existing helipad and ensures the construction of an additional helipad on the roof of one of the buildings, a step intended to improve the accessibility of free medical services in the hospital complex.
