About a month ago we reported here on the return to the wild of the sea turtle Ofer, who recovered from an injury at the sea turtle center in a trawler. Ofer was released into the wild in the Shkomona Marine Reserve, in the small bay south of the Sea and Lake Research Institute in Haifa.

This week Sara Ohion, the biologist for the Society for the Protection of Nature, reported that she met Ofer in front of the Bat Galim promenade. He looks healthy and happy. These days there is a significant growth of algae off the coast of Haifa. This is typical of the spring period. The sea turtles come to the beaches of Haifa for mating and these days the laying of the eggs, which are collected in a special farm, by the RTG inspectors, has already begun.
