(Haipo) – The Teachers' Federation announced that classes at the "Gebirtzman" kindergarten in Kiryat Motzkin will begin on Monday, September 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM only, following a serious incident of verbal violence and threatening behavior by the grandfather of one of the kindergarten children towards the kindergarten staff. A representative of the Teachers' Federation will come to the kindergarten to hold an informational meeting with the educational staff.
Violent incident at the kindergarten gate: shouting, cursing and threatening advances towards the kindergarten teacher
According to the Teachers' Union, near the end of the school day, the grandfather arrived at the kindergarten gate before the gate was due to open, rang the bell repeatedly, knocked and shook the kindergarten gate vigorously, even though it had been explained to him that the children were released at the appointed time and in an orderly manner. When the kindergarten teacher came out to him and asked him to wait patiently, the grandfather began to shout, curse and humiliate her with humiliating statements. Later, when the gate opened, he advanced towards her in a threatening manner, waving his hands, until parents present at the scene were forced to stand as a barrier between him and the kindergarten staff. The incident occurred in the presence of children and parents, and caused panic, fear and crying among the kindergarten children. Following the incident, the kindergarten teacher filed a complaint with the police.
Teachers' Union: "We will not allow harm to the authority of kindergarten teachers and the safety of children"
The chairwoman of the Early Childhood Division of the Teachers' Union, Ms. Anat Dadon, said that "a kindergarten teacher who ensures that children are released from kindergarten in an orderly manner is doing exactly her job. Her responsibility is to ensure that each child leaves safely, in the right hands, and in a manner that allows full supervision of the safety of all children." Dadon added that "it would be unthinkable for a family member to arrive at the kindergarten gate, apply pressure, shout, curse, shake the gate, and approach the kindergarten staff in a threatening manner just because they are required to wait a few minutes for an orderly release. This is violence, this is breaking boundaries, and this is a direct violation of the kindergarten teacher's authority." According to her, "the Teachers' Union will stand by the kindergarten staff and work to ensure a safe, respectful, and protected working environment."
Deputy Secretary General of the Teachers' Union: "The incident is traumatic – the kindergarten staff should not end their day scared and humiliated"
Deputy Secretary General of the Teachers' Union and Chairwoman of the Haifa branch, Edna David, noted that "a kindergarten staff should not end a workday scared, humiliated and helpless in the face of threatening behavior from a family member. The fact that children and parents witnessed shouting, cursing and forceful behavior makes the event even more traumatic." David emphasized that "releasing children from kindergarten is not a technical matter, it is a sensitive moment that requires order, responsibility and full supervision. When the kindergarten teacher seeks to maintain procedures, she is protecting the children. Harming her because of this is a harm to the children's safety and the kindergarten's ability to operate as a safe educational space." According to her, "the Teachers' Union will stand by the kindergarten staff and demand full protection of the safety, dignity and professional authority of the educators."
