(Haipo) – On Sunday evening, May 17, 2026, a giant viper was caught under a car, near the back door, on Shazar Street in Haifa. Fortunately, the car's owners were not bitten by it. Neighborhood Capture Operation
Zohar said that the resident of the street saw this viper a few days ago, when it entered a large thicket of bushes near a children's park, and since then she has been keeping an eye out until the snake is identified. The resident is winning this operation with all the residents of the street, who joined in to capture it and as soon as it appeared, immediately ordered the capture.
A fat and full snake lay peacefully on the road.
Passersby who noticed the giant viper snake, lying under a car on Shazar Street in Haifa, called snake catcher Zohar Lahat. According to the report, it was obvious that the snake was fat and full, it was not moving but simply lying on the road and resting. The snake was not afraid of anything and simply waited in place. Zohar Lahat arrived at the scene with a large container designed to collect snakes and special rods designed for catching. She caught the snake using the rods and placed it in the catching device. From there, the snake will be released into the wild.
Vipers – protected by law and serve as nature's sanitation workers
Vipers are very common in Haifa. They feed on small animals and especially like rats, which are unfortunately very common in the city, both in the bushes and in the sewer systems. Vipers are protected in the State of Israel, it is forbidden to kill them, and they have a very important role in regulating the rat population in the city - thus they are in fact nature's sanitation workers. With the arrival of spring and the warming of the ground, the snakes that have spent their winter hibernation come out of their burrows and look for food, and in May they are especially active even in the evening hours.
Recommendations to the public: Keep your distance and call a snake catcher
The public is asked to be careful when walking on trails, especially dark trails where you can't see where you're stepping, and to avoid contact with snakes. If you encounter a snake, all you have to do is call snake catcher Zohar Lahat at: 054-245-5627 And try to maintain eye contact with the snake until it arrives.
It is important not to try to touch the snake or approach it, and to allow the professional to handle the capture and release safely.

When you kill all the street cats, you invite snakes, rats, and mice into the streets and homes,
Brainless municipal conduct,
Well done for the execution and vigilance, what do we do with these snakes?
So wait, anyone can pay you and publish a job article?
A weaver? A snake? Why bother him???
A sea of nature, a new, noisy, shaking construction, a frightened snake.
Let him move on.
I feel like he's a Moroccan snake and you don't want to combine him with the Ashkenazi colors of the "under-the-barrel" shazar.
And how hypocritical can one article be when it says that snakes are nature's cleaners – so what would Shazar's nature do without the cleaner???
I don't understand what's burning you,
First of all, it is a local news corporation whose goal is to publish what is happening in Haifa and its surroundings, meaning it is current.
In addition, it is true that the snake should be kept alive to balance the environmental climate, but that does not mean that it should be left on the road in the middle of the neighborhood when there is a chance that a child who is unaware of the snake's fear and its instincts will attack.
I believe with all my heart that the snake was finally returned to nature where it can continue to exist without fear.
Kudos to the snake catcher and the passersby who saw a problem and dealt with it directly. This is the only way we – the little citizens – can continue to promote and preserve our community together for a better present and future.
