(haipo) Snake catcher Zohar Lahat was urgently called to a residence in Kiryat Bialik after a resident spotted a large black snake hiding near gas cylinders. Lahat, who was on her way back from catching a snake in Nahariya, arrived at the scene within minutes and managed to capture the snake, which was identified as a black viper, a non-venomous and non-dangerous snake.
Challenging capture between gas cylinders
Zohar Lahat said that upon arriving at the scene, she began clearing the area around the gas cylinders, and then noticed the snake through a narrow slit. Since the cylinder was very heavy and could not be moved, she gently touched the snake to encourage it to come out of its hiding place. Lahat placed one hand in one opening and the other in the opening on the side to quickly catch it. According to her, the snake was extremely strong and muscular. The residents who have lived there for over 30 years said that they had never encountered a snake in their area, and Lahat explained to them that because they live on the first line to the fields, snakes sometimes come into the residential area by mistake.
Black zeaman – a natural ecological pesticide and informed release considerations
Lahat wanted to emphasize that the black cobra is a non-dangerous and non-venomous snake, and it performs an amazing ecological pest control function. It feeds on rodents and other snakes, so its presence is beneficial to the environment.
Lahat added that she tries to release each snake in a suitable environment closest to the place of capture, so as not to harm its chances of survival. Among the considerations she takes into account: the snake knows its environment, knows where its secrets are and where its hunting opportunities are. Ecologically, each area can contain a certain number of snakes, so she avoids creating competition in another environment or crowding many snakes of the same type in one spot. She also makes sure not to release in a place where the snake could be run over, hurt by a cat or a person, or in a field where it could be chopped up.

The snake is friendly to us, it eats mice and rodents, the best against mice, it is important, its gentleness is good for the environment.
Did you really publish an article about capturing a black snake that is neither venomous nor dangerous? Have you run out of things to write about?
Good evening, Noga, thank you for your interesting article as always. Please note that you should not catch or harass a coin-eating skunk, it is man's best friend after the dog.
This kind of friend is found in our building, and it's better to have a close neighbor than a distant brother.
I spoke with the catcher Zohar and she noted that she works with great love and care for the reptile community.
