Danger to life in a metro • Open door while traveling at high speed

(haipo) – A serious incident that occurred in the metro system in the Haifa metropolitan area is causing outrage and concern. During a fast trip on Line 1 from Haifa to Kiryat Shmona today, Monday, 4/20/26, the metro door remained open during the trip and along the way, putting passengers at risk. This is not the first incident, and the feeling among the public is that this is a repeated failure that is not receiving a satisfactory response.

Passengers who traveled on Metro Line 1, which connects Haifa and Kiryat Shmona, documented a particularly disturbing ride: the vehicle was moving quickly, while one of the doors remained open without any immediate stop or care from the driver.
According to passengers, the feeling was of complete lack of control. "It was scary. You understand an incident where the door is open while traveling at high speed can end in disaster," said one. Others noted that this was not an unusual incident, but a recurring phenomenon, which raises serious questions about the maintenance and supervision of the system.

The metro, operated by Superbus, is considered one of the pillars of public transportation in the northern region. However, repeated incidents of safety failures, primarily doors that open or do not close properly, undermine the sense of security of the traveling public.

The Superbus company responded: "The incident does not meet Superbus' strict standards for safety and service. This is an isolated incident and as soon as the complaint was received, the vehicle was immediately taken off the road for inspection and treatment. The incident will be investigated and an inquiry will be held with the driver in accordance with procedures. Superbus considers passenger safety of great importance and is constantly working to maintain a high level of service and safety."

  1. The drivers of the metro really drive in a scary way, too fast without thinking about the passengers at all!!!! They brake so suddenly, it's crazy that they don't get punished for things like that. I just stopped riding the metro. What's going on there is not normal. When will the municipality wake up and deal with this???????

  2. We need a light rail in the Haifa-Karyot area!!! It's simply unfair that there is no light rail here and instead there is a metro, which is actually a long, uncomfortable, noisy, stressful bus! Why is the municipality here so dysfunctional that it is unable to lead a normal light rail project?!?! Sad

  3. There is a serious problem with most metro drivers. Their driving on the road is saturated with disregard for traffic regulations and laws. First, they drive at speeds well above the permitted limit. They do not signal for parking at stations or for exiting!! As a public transport driver for many years, I did not allow myself to behave the way most of them behave on the road.

    • I ride the Metro enough to know that you're talking nonsense, but anyone is allowed to let off steam and tell everyone they're an "expert."
