(haipo) The Ministry of Transportation and Road Safety and the Ministry of Finance have approved significant budget additions to the Tirat Carmel and Haifa metro project, another step towards completing one of the largest and most significant public transportation projects in the north. The additions join a total investment of approximately 700 million shekels in the project, which is being carried out through the Cross-Israel Company.
As part of the work plan to accelerate strategic projects, a budget addition of NIS 62 million was approved for 2025 for the Tirat Carmel Matronit Project (DP4). In addition, a supplementary budget of approximately NIS 4 million was approved, so that the total budget authorization for this project will be close to NIS 179 million.
This is a vital step in completing the future transportation system of the Haifa and Carmel metropolitan area. The expanded metro is expected to significantly improve transportation accessibility in the area, shorten travel times, and offer an efficient, fast, and convenient alternative to the private car.
Field work is in full swing.
According to the plan, the route of the new metro lines will extend over approximately 10 kilometers and create a rapid transportation continuum that will connect Tirat Carmel and Haifa West with central commercial, employment and leisure centers, including direct access to Sammy Ofer Stadium.
The work on the ground is already underway and includes paving designated priority lanes for the metro, establishing approximately 30 new and advanced stations equipped with real-time information displays, and implementing advanced technological systems for priority at traffic lights and intersections. In addition, the project includes a significant upgrade of the urban space, developing illuminated bike paths, new sidewalks, and investing in landscape development.
The move will save valuable time and improve the quality of life of the region's residents.
Minister of Transportation and Road Safety, Miri Regev: "The metro project in the Haifa metropolitan area and its expansion to Tirat Carmel is an integral part of the 'Connecting Israel' vision. We are providing the residents of the north with fast and advanced public transportation that will significantly shorten travel times and enable comfortable and efficient arrival at their destination without relying on a private vehicle. This is a move that will save valuable time and lead to a real improvement in the quality of life of the residents of the region."
Director General of the Ministry of Transport and Road Safety, Moshe Ben Zaken, He emphasized the economic and social aspect of the project: "The ministry is committed to strengthening transportation accessibility and reducing the cost of living. The expanded metro line will ease traffic congestion, save the public valuable time in traffic jams, and improve the experience of traveling on public transportation. We are closely monitoring the pace of progress and working to complete the project as soon as possible."
The budget increase is a significant step in advancing the transportation system in the Haifa metropolitan area.
The Cross Israel Company also welcomes the approval of the budget. The company's CEO, Dan Schenbach, noted"The additional budget for upgrading and expanding the metro lines is a significant step in advancing the transportation system in the Haifa metropolis. The project integrates into a series of strategic projects in the north, which together create a fast, safe and efficient transportation continuum and strengthen connectivity between employment, study and leisure centers."
Upon completion, the expanded metro project is expected to become a central transportation backbone in the Haifa metropolis that will affect not only the comfort of travel, but also large-scale urban, economic and environmental development.

Nice article, but lacking in details. What is the schedule, when will the lines be operational? Does the project also include the changes at the Matam intersection and the stadium?
To Ronen who commented on placing a police officer on every bus
Or matron, is violence against drivers
preferable?
Posting a security guard here saves money?
And human life? Like the skin of garlic?
After Kalish foolishly gave up on the metro project on the ridge axis at the beginning of her term, the huge budget of 1.5 billion shekels was transferred from Haifa to other cities... and thus Kalish caused a huge blunder that Haifa will not recover from for many years after everyone forgets who Kalish is 🤐
Why do we need a metro station on a route with ten or more bus lines?
In my opinion, the increase in violence against
Bus drivers and passengers,
Must be attached to every metro and bus
A police officer and/or a security guard to maintain order
And against violence.
Very applicable!
Do you know how many thousands of people are needed for this?
