As every year, the Fisheries Division of the Ministry of Agriculture announces the period of the ban on fishing in the Mediterranean Sea for its various methods in accordance with the fishing regulations, with the aim of ensuring a proper and regular reproduction process of the fish in the Mediterranean Sea during the nesting and spawning season and preserving the fish resource. The restrictions on fishing will apply this year during the breeding season, when the fish multiply and during the recruitment season, when new fish join the adult fish population. The fishing ban period due to the breeding season will apply from April 30, 2024 to June 30, 2024 and the fishing ban period due to the recruitment season will apply from July 1, 2024 to August 31, 2024. In the month of May, between the dates 30.4.2024 and 1.6.2024, it will be allowed to fish certain species according to a defined list with a ring net, a rifle, and a fishing rod. In the month of June, between 1.6.2024 and 30.6.2024, it will be possible to fish certain species in a floating sharak. As for the recruitment season, between 1.7.2024 and 31.8.2024, during this period it is allowed to fish by all methods, except trawl fishing. All this in accordance with the caveats and restrictions below:
Restrictions for ring net fishing (chinchula) during the breeding season:
Fishing is allowed for certain species only during the month of May and at a minimum depth of 20 meters. It is forbidden to fish at a shallower depth. Among the species allowed for fishing with this method (in parentheses - the popular name of the fish):
Fishing is allowed:
- All-sea Atromeus (round sardine), striped dimple (Slomo, Buchlo), thin-tailed striper (snake), Atlantic tuna (black pallid), Atlantic sardine and Mediterranean humpback (Ben Gurion).
- From a length of 11 cm and more: Terit Deka and other sardines (sardin) and bivalves (intifada, turgulos).
- From 20 cm long and more: Aspirina smootha (Spirana, barracuda), Aspirina malita (Malita, yellowtail) and big-headed/golden/tober kipon (rabbit mullet, daban, tober, cephalus).
- From a length of 30 cm and more: agile scombran (white palmida, palmud).

Restrictions for fishing with a fishing rod or rod from a vessel:
