A ship that was used for illegal fishing in the Atlit area was seized by the marine unit of the Nature and Parks Authority. The fishermen were detained on suspicion of illegal fishing during the breeding season of the fish, which is critical for preserving the fish resource in the Mediterranean. A lot of locos were caught on the ship, some of them smaller than the minimum size allowed for fishing. The ship was towed to the port of Haifa where it was loaded onto a truck and taken to a warehouse.
| Lahi Pa was informed by the Nature and Parks Authority:
In an initiative surveillance activity of the Marine Unit of the Nature and Parks Authority, the authority on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture for the supervision of fishing, fishermen from Kishon Port were caught this week, allegedly engaged in illegal fishing in the Atlit area during the fish breeding season, when fishing is prohibited. The inspectors of the marine unit of the Nature and Parks Authority caught the suspects in the act and a large amount of stingray fish (locus) were also found on the ship. Some of the fish were below the minimum size allowed for fishing.

| The ship was seized and the fishermen detained for questioning
With the assistance of the Haifa Maritime Police, the ship was towed to the port of Haifa and later loaded and transferred to the occupied warehouse of the Ministry of Agriculture. The fishermen were detained and questioned on suspicion of violations of the fishing ordinance.

| Enforcement operation during the breeding season
This operation was conducted during the period of the ban on fishing in the Mediterranean region, announced by the Director of the Fisheries Division at the Ministry of Agriculture, in accordance with the fishing regulations, with the aim of ensuring a proper and regular reproduction process of the fish in the Mediterranean Sea and preserving the fishing resource.
| The guidelines for the ban on fishing
According to the guidelines of the Fisheries Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, the fishing prohibitions in the Mediterranean according to the various methods are:
► Fishing in all fishing methods (except fishing from the shore and fishing from a trawl) is prohibited from 25/04/2021 to 30/06/2021 (inclusive).
► Fishing for fish from the dakar subfamily (locus) is prohibited in all fishing methods from 21/05/2021 to 30/06/2021 (inclusive).
► Trawler fishing will be prohibited from July 1.7.2021, 31.8.2021 to August XNUMX, XNUMX (inclusive), in order to avoid catching young minnows during the recruitment period.
| The importance of stopping fishing during the breeding season:
Yigal Ben Ari, director of the marine unit at the Nature and Parks Authority, told Lahi Pa:
"The breeding season is a central tool in the management of the fishing industry in Israel and directly affects the health and prosperity of the marine habitat. The inspectors of the Marine Unit of the Nature and Parks Authority will continue to resolutely enforce the fishing ban during the breeding season until the end of June."
| Man and Sea week
In the meantime, the Nature and Parks Authority will mark next week (starting on June 5.6) "Man and Sea Week", which is observed every year near Oceans Day (June 8.6), and whose purpose is to raise awareness among the public of the importance of preserving the marine and coastal environment for the sake of nature and for man.
The way to preserve these environments is, among other things, through the declaration of nature reserves that give them the best protection. During this week, the Nature and Parks Authority will hold a variety of activities for the general public around this issue.

Confiscate their ship permanently and fine them several thousand shekels, maybe they will learn a lesson.
Professional fishermen have been cutting down the branch they are sitting on for many years.
No brain no worries.
all due respect. It arrived at a time when they would start to flood the country in all respects in fishing, on the roads, in nature. Clean them from anyone who does not respect all the laws. They stopped taking the laws seriously a long time ago. Those who cross borders in everything should be punished. An order that will return to being like in all normal countries will also be restored and the feeling of security will return to us.
Kudos to the supervision. I hope that there is finally a father who stands up for the lawlessness of the sea. And kudos to the Haifa municipality, which recently clears tons of trash after vacationers at Haddo beach. There has never been such cleanliness and the amount of trash they placed is huge. Keep it up. Together. Our lives will look better .
Well done, we must preserve nature both in the sea and on land
It hurts to visit such places that have been made desolate by animals
A NIS 30,000 fine will deter.
Little respect for nature that allows fishermen to make a living and exist. Kudos to the maritime police and it's a shame that there are such fishermen who do not realize it themselves that the results of their actions will cause damage to their livelihood.
BSD: It's time to find out why the Nature and Parks Authority "takes care" of every citizen and doesn't mainly deal with it! The guide wins this week's lawsuit against the Nature and Parks Authority! There are a lot of fires in Israel's forests and it's time for you to do something more useful than arresting citizens and suing them! Take care of preventing fires today with the help of the Name!!!
The law has been in place for decades.
The time has come for enforcement and punishment!
Licensed trawlers in the port of Kishon cannot go out to sea, and in contrast all the illegal fishermen dare.
And most of them are Arabs who tweet about the laws of the country.
Why don't they decide the ship, like in other economic crimes
My response is a selection,,, will you take your inspectors out during this period to the Jessar a Zarka area,,,, if you do a faithful job?? I promise you fishing by lots of illegal fishing boats,,, but what is there to talk about, you know that
Well done
When will they wake up up there in the offices, there should be a law on a certain size like in the other countries for all fish and whoever is caught, no matter what kind of fisherman from the shore or boat, should be severely punished with money and then you will see what kind of fish will be here
Arabs..
Kudos to the Maritime Police! Have a good week. Activity is indeed worthy of appreciation.
These are Arabs from the village of Zissel Azarka, who enjoy the protection of the Ra'am party. They should be severely punished.
Finally, the time has come to save the fish here in Israel. For years, the illegal fisherman has been celebrating and destroying every breeding ground of the fish. It is time to enter them in Amama. The fish in Israel are in a state of ruin.
It is very sad that this is how "people" who understand the meaning of their actions behave.
Hope they will be severely punished and pay for the restoration of their actions!
The thieves should be punished with thousands of shekels and their fishing licenses should be denied. Even the third world respects nature, you are criminals.
Too little, too shabby, there are not enough inspectors as usual, so there is no one to stop the criminals everywhere, and at sea, as everywhere, there are a lot of them
A bunch of 10 fish... you're really bored by the way, the sea is already dead...
It's time to have control over fish reproduction for the future balance of the fishery. Well done, keep it up
In short, for children and adults who love fish, please call the fishermen by their name: Arabs!!!
This is a ship that has been roaming openly for a long time that is used for fishing.
Punish them with all severity and publish
It's just a shame that you hide the identity or rather the origin of these fishing criminals. From personal knowledge, they belong to that sector where there is no appreciation for animals in general, respect for the law and the other person, and yes, that sector that can in a second deprive a human life just because they had a conflict or the honor of the family was damaged.
So you expect them to respect the fishing laws and allow the fish to breed so that there is a livelihood for other fishermen as well?
I won't be surprised if tomorrow some left-wing judge orders the boat to be released, since this is the livelihood of decisions.
Always fishing and not fishing, even if it is the fishing regulations and the fishing department!
Yes, a fisherman loves fish!!!
Also, the release of the sea turtle is just like the war of liberation, and not liberation!
Enforcement activity is welcome!
Kudos to the Maritime Police!
of the Nature and Parks Authority.
Enforcement activity is welcome!
Kudos to the Maritime Police!
