The healthcare system in the North is receiving a significant boost: Dr. Ariel Roitman, a laryngologist (a subspecialty in otolaryngology - ENT, which deals with the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of diseases and disorders of the vocal cords, larynx, pharynx and trachea) and with international experience in the field of voice and respiratory disorders, has been appointed director of the regional laryngology unit, a unique appointment shared by Carmel Hospital and Clalit's Haifa District. The move strengthens the treatment continuum model and provides patients in the North with a continuous, professional and more accessible medical envelope than ever before.

Double appointment – from the community to the operating room
Dr. Roitman's new appointment is a key pillar in the close collaboration between Carmel and General in the Haifa District. As part of the continuum of care model, patients can meet Dr. Roitman at the ENT clinic in Lin, receive an initial diagnosis and consultation, and later, if necessary, undergo advanced examination or surgery at Carmel Hospital, by the same doctor.
The model allows for a full continuum of medical information, personal familiarity with the patient, and in some cases even performing innovative treatments in the clinic itself, without the need for general anesthesia.

Prof. Ilana Doak: "A professional doctor with a great reputation"
Director of the Department of Otolaryngology at Carmel, Prof. Ilana Doak, congratulated the appointment and said: "Dr. Ariel grew up in the department and has always worked to advance the department and the district. He is a highly professional physician, with a great reputation and excellent interpersonal skills. I am very proud of his appointment and wish him great success."
A doctor with international experience and local vision
Dr. Roitman, a native of Haifa and resident of Zichron Yaakov, has been affiliated with Carmel Hospital for about 14 years. He completed his residency in EEG at Carmel, and later went on to do a fellowship at Auckland City Hospital in New Zealand, where he focused on voice and respiratory diseases. He then joined research at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in the US, where he studied advanced laser technologies in airway surgery.
Today, he leads a trend in Israel of innovative treatments in the clinic, without general anesthesia, and applies advanced techniques learned abroad.

"Good medicine begins with listening" – Dr. Roitman on his worldview
Dr. Roitman shares: "Good medicine begins with listening to the patient and paying attention to the small details. Sometimes a small detail like a change in voice is the key to the correct diagnosis. We must not be satisfied with 'this is how we have always done it,' we must ask how we can provide better and simpler treatment."
He adds that his ambition is to establish Carmel and the Haifa District as a leading world-class center in the field of laryngology.
