(haipo) – A new report by the Ministry of Health indicates a quiet but dramatic revolution in the health system: home hospitalizations in Israel have transformed from an experimental model to a central service, with a sharp jump in the number of patients. Against the background of the data, Yad Sara announces a significant expansion of home hospitalization services, another step in the concept that seeks to bring advanced medicine to the patient's home, and not the other way around.
Sharp jump in home hospitalizations: from 136 to 38 thousand
According to the published report, the number of acute home hospitalizations in Israel jumped from only 136 in 2018 to about 38 in 2024. That year, about 445 patients were hospitalized at home every day, and in the peak month, their number reached about 600 patients at the same time, a figure equivalent to about 17 active internal medicine departments.
The report emphasizes that for patients who qualify, home hospitalization offers significant benefits: care in a familiar environment, reduced exposure to infections and risks of prolonged hospitalization, and improved patient and family experience.
Yad Sara: From borrowing equipment – to the home hospitalization revolution
At Yad Sara, the data reflects a profound change in the perception of hospitalization in Israel. The organization, which was established and operated for years under the leadership of Rabbi Uri Lupoliansky, has gradually expanded the range of services it provides in the patient's home: from lending medical and rehabilitation equipment, through respiratory equipment and oxygen, a medical emergency center, remote monitoring, and adapting the home to the patient's needs.
Now Yad Sara is announcing a dramatic expansion of the service, full medical support and the transfer of significant parts from the hospital to the patient's home.

New service in Zichron Yaakov: Another step in the revolution
A new service has been inaugurated in Zichron Yaakov, as part of the expansion of the national response. The service will enable advanced medical care at home, with the aim of reducing the need for hospital visits and stays in appropriate cases.
"Let a person recover at home"
Yad Sarah CEO, Moshe Cohen, He referred to the report's data and the clear trend that emerges from it: "We welcome the report and the clear direction that emerges from it. For years, Yad Sara has operated from a simple concept: when the medical condition allows it, it is right to give the person the tools to receive treatment and recover at home, alongside his family and in an environment familiar to him."
Cohen added that the organization will continue to expand the infrastructure that enables advanced home hospitalization: "Our role is to continue to build the infrastructure that will allow this to happen in practice, through advanced medical equipment, monitoring, a medical center, community services, and a supportive environment for the patient and family. Tomorrow in Zichron Yaakov we will take another step in this direction, and we will continue to expand the response wherever we can allow the appropriate patient to receive more medicine, at home."
