(haipo) This morning (Thursday, June 18, 2026), a pride flag was discovered in the city that had been defaced with a quote from the Book of Jeremiah, a serious incident that harms the symbols of the gay community and the sense of security of its residents.
Mayor of Haifa, Yona Yahav, strongly condemned the vandalism of the Pride flag that was hung at the entrance to the city hall. Yahav called the act "a serious and intolerable incident" and noted that it joins a number of other serious incidents of damage to pride symbols throughout the city. The city representative filed a complaint with the police following the incident.

Mayor: "We cannot allow voices of hate to dictate the agenda"
Mayor Yona Yahav He said that he strongly condemns the vandalism of the flag, and emphasized that "Haifa is a city of respect, tolerance, equality and acceptance of others." According to him, "The vandalism of the flag is not just an attack on a symbol, it is an attempt to harm the values on which our city is founded and the right of every person to live their lives with dignity and security." Yahav added that "especially during Pride Month, it is important to clarify: We will not allow voices of hatred, incitement or violence to dictate our agenda. We will continue to stand by the gay community, embrace the human diversity that characterizes Haifa and ensure that every resident feels at home here."
The municipality filed a complaint with the police and launched an investigation.
Following the incident, a representative of the Haifa Municipality filed a complaint with the police for vandalism of the pride flag hanging at the entrance to the city hall. At the same time as filing the complaint, the Haifa Municipality began investigating the incident. This incident joins, as noted, a number of other cases of damage to pride symbols that occurred throughout the city, as the mayor noted in his response. The municipality made it clear that it will act decisively against such phenomena and will continue to stand by the gay community in Haifa.

There was a story in Jerusalem about an Arab who tore the state flag off a car and got away with nothing, I think, because of a lousy judge. The story with the pride flags doesn't make sense to me. I understand that there is such a tendency. What is there to celebrate or note here?
How can a Jew like Meir, who borrows on interest and eats matzah made from the blood of children, be allowed to comment on such things on the site?
'Man'. A miserable coward who writes like the most extreme anti-Semite. If you are Jewish then you are a shame to the people. Convert to Islam or Christianity.
This community needs to understand that it is fed up with all kinds of pillow biters and engine lickers coming to this beautiful city from Tel Aviv, making noise at night, hanging around all day with their dogs, and being useless at nothing. And what is even more sickening is normalizing this community.
