The landing of a Piaggio P-180 Avanti II executive jet, on Tuesday (2/17/26), at Haifa Airport aroused great interest. We examined what the aircraft is, who it is intended for, what routes it requires, and whether Haifa is prepared to receive aircraft of this type in the future.
On Tuesday (2/17/26), a unique turboprop aircraft landed at Haifa Airport. Piaggio P-180 Avanti II, a landing not often seen at the northern airport. The plane, which is used mainly for executive and private flights, attracted attention both for its unusual appearance and for the question: Is Haifa Airport capable of hosting this type of aircraft on a routine basis?

Fast and efficient executive jet
The Avanti II is an advanced Italian-made turboprop aircraft designed for business, private and luxury charter flights. Although it is not a jet, its performance is very close to that of light executive jets, and it is considered to be particularly fast and economical in its category. The cabin is usually adapted for 6 to 9 passengers, in addition to two crew members.

Route requirements: Not big – but precise
One of the main advantages of the Avanti II is its ability to operate from medium-sized airports.
The required takeoff runway length for the aircraft is approximately 1,000 meters and the landing runway length is similar, making it suitable for regional airports that are not equipped with particularly long runways.

Is Haifa Airport suitable?
Haifa Airport has a runway of approximately 1,300 meters, which is above the minimum requirements for the Avanti II. This means that from an operational and technical point of view, the aircraft can take off and land in Haifa under normal conditions, as indeed happened on the last landing.

Flight range and number of passengers
The Avanti II is capable of flying approximately 2,700 kilometers without refueling, a range that allows direct flights from Haifa to destinations in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Combining such a range with a limited number of passengers makes it a preferred solution for business people, official delegations and luxury flights.
More than just a landing
The landing of the Avanti II in Haifa is not just a one-off aviation event, but a reminder of the potential of the northern airport to accommodate executive jets and advanced regional flights. As infrastructure develops and operational restrictions are lifted, we may see more and more aircraft of this type making their way to the Haifa runway.
