A supporting wall collapsed on the Yad Brick Road in Haifa ► Special broadcast from the area on the day of the collapse • Chai Fa-TV

(Live here - the article has been updated) - A supporting wall collapsed on Yad Labanim Street in Haifa. There are no injuries, but there is minor property damage.
The collapse of the retaining wall will limit traffic on the road. The collapse occurred during a day when heavy rain fell in Haifa, which apparently caused an accumulation of mud at the bottom of the wall. The wall did not withstand the load.

The tenants were alerted

According to some of the tenants, the residents warned that the wall was problematic already a month ago, and according to them, holes were drilled in the wall, in order to mitigate the pressure of the rainwater. According to them, the Haifa municipality has placed a barrier instead of parking along the length of the problematic section.

Here you can see the new hole that the Haifa Municipality drilled in the concrete (the hole on the right). It didn't help.

Today at about 5 o'clock in the morning the neighbors heard a very loud noise. Then the wall collapsed.
Due to the collapse of the wall, a vehicle with a disabled sign parked opposite the wall was damaged. The falling stones flew at his car and damaged it. The municipality immediately sent teams, including security coordinators, who prevented the curious from entering the area.

The Municipality of Haifa brought to the area several excavators of various sizes, a truck for removing waste and a truck with batons, to stop the further deterioration.
The parking road was cleaned and demarcated using the concrete. The area is closed by a fence to prevent cars from parking, and the road is partially closed.

Mrs. Iris Kadosh, a representative of the Haifa municipality, came to the area to find out if any of the tenants needed any help. She went door to door, while informing the tenants that the repair would last about two months and part of the parking lot would be cordoned off. Iris told Lehi Fe that a woman whose car was injured needs to go to Rambam for treatment this coming Sunday. The municipality mobilized to help and will drive the patient to treatment.

Building engineer Yossi Davidson told Haifa:

Yossi Davidson - civil engineer
(personal album)

The stormy weather was the trigger that caused the collapse of the brick retaining wall.
The retaining wall was poorly designed and executed. It was only a matter of time before the wall collapsed. The address was written on the wall. According to the current situation, another collapse of the continuation of the wall is expected at any given moment.

Heavy weather and rain shouldn't cause the wall to collapse, because that's what it's supposed to be designed for.
The phenomenon of retaining walls collapsing when it rains is very common in Haifa. It is enough to recall the retaining walls that collapsed in recent years on Zalman Shnior St. and Samson St.

Avihu Han, the chairman of the Greens of Haifa and the candidate for mayor, said in response to Hai Fe:

Avihu Han (Photo: Yaron Karmi)

This is what Klish's tenure looks like in one picture - collapsing!
Miraculously there were no casualties.
I repeatedly demanded from the city engineer to conduct engineering inspections of buildings and infrastructure throughout the city. Unfortunately, this was not done.
When I become mayor, such inspections will be routine and not after a disaster.

The Haifa Municipality stated:

There were no injuries and little property damage. The municipal administration is on site and a contractor has been called to repair the hazard caused by the stormy weather.

  1. The imaginary dirt belt they put there looks to me like something so heavy that it could collapse the lower wall of the lower parking lot in front of the buildings
Does the municipality really understand what it is doing or did they choose the fastest solution which is a huge mound of dirt that will prevent the walls from moving at the expense of the tenants who lost the access road and the parking lots and are in danger from the huge mound of dirt they have now put there.

  2. The Yad Labanim road is probably entirely or almost entirely on fill and not on the rock. Therefore, any wall thickening solution or section repair will not help. You need 24/7 including Saturdays and holidays, remove the entire layer of fill, build an extra thick concrete wall with reinforcements, fill the section from which the fill is taken out with concrete and rainwater transfer piping, and re-pave the top. This is also an opportunity to arrange this whole corner, and at the same time to strengthen the walls with marble filling under the houses in the round. Otherwise we will find 184 and above and maybe below = completely below...

  3. This is your response. Aviahu Han is a candidate for mayor
What will the residents in the area of the collapsed wall do? Continue with slogans and do nothing. Speak in the council
This is your problem, you deal with theories and not actions, you need a solution now
You are Zvika Barbie (Mr. Security, WhatsApp, security that residents will warn about dangers, great beauty, but what is the solution now and David Etzioni (we need to do a survey of many places around the city, beauty) but with a solution now, just chatter, Boroboski didn't even refer to the fallen wall, continues to talk about worldly problems, so detached .
And only one "small" woman in double and double quotation marks is in contact with the city engineer and is in contact with the residents in the area and gave a practical solution online here and now without Tsvontzik stories
Meet Sarit Golan Steinberg, yes the loudmouth of all the pompous and cultured, and yes, I am a pompous Ashkenazi who sees a woman fighting voluntarily for the well-being of the residents and is unable to hear her in every council about the failings of the municipality led by Klish

    • But her solution is nice, but she didn't check that the entire road on all its lanes is being filled.... If they continue with 2 lanes in the descending section, the risk increases. Worth checking out….

  4. Isn't it about time that a municipality the size of Haifa?
Hire a hazardous building engineer who is a licensed constructor
And licensed and not pretending to be one?
The collapse of the wall is not the mayor's responsibility, but a wrong choice of workers can lead to the mayor's personal criminal responsibility.

  5. The ridiculous excuses that the spokespersons of the municipality claim only increase the fear of further collapses in the city made by the municipality whether of retaining walls or any other kind of performance that the municipality performs.
I very much hope that operators of works performed by the municipality will be educated enough to plan all the performances that the municipality performs.
Engineers who will be real engineers with standard certifications!!!!

    • Esther Bacher - you don't know how right you are. Those who studied engineering at the academy and are registered in the engineers' register will be called an engineer. So is a civil engineer and so is a food engineer. Within the general classification there are specializations. Some of the civil engineers were qualified as civil engineers = constructors. Only they can design a supporting wall over 2 meters. In the past, the municipality of Haifa employed a structural engineer as an engineer of dangerous structures. After him came an engineer who is not like that. Here is the negligence of the head of the municipality. Why not hire a food engineer? It will be even cheaper... sometimes we actually need a food engineer - look at all those who feed us gravel. They probably employ a building engineer and not food.

  6. There is no maintenance in the city of Haifa. For the urgent care of Haifa municipality.

  7. Luckily, not a single wild boar was killed in the collapse, and no cats were harmed.
They fenced for two months, which means they knew about the danger and did nothing.
After all, that's all that interests this illusory municipality

  8. Really simple and it's just a wall and only a brick wall.
And it's not because of the rain, I just saw a fat person pass by
On the sidewalk above and it fell. That's why you don't change a mayor.

  9. The foundation should be done by stilts and anchors for full support
The loads are given by a soil consultant who calculates the type of soil and forces
operating in situations of rain and changing the applied load.

  10. He will lie, it's not the weather, it's the disrespect, it's not that of the staff who didn't brazen three weeks before me, Mimi Peretz turned and asked to come take care of it, it's dangerous, he did nothing and nothing, he should blame himself and the staff, they didn't act to do anything, because that's how the residents are not interesting

  11. caused by the weather?? nonsense caused by the negligence of a contractor who built the wall without drainage and without tying the panels together
In general, the roads in Haifa are in a terrible condition and just waiting for disasters. I'm sure there is a lot more damage that was not discovered on the roads due to the heavy rain that fell

  12. No wonder things are collapsing in Haifa. For years I've been complaining to the municipality that we have a lot that could fall apart at any moment and the municipality ignores everything the residents have to say. I have no doubt that they warned us here too! But property tax is the most expensive in the country for Klish and wild boars to have something to eat.

  13. He will lie, it's not the weather, it's the disrespect of the staff, who didn't brazen three weeks before me, Mimi Peretz turned and asked to come take care of it, it's dangerous, what he did nothing and nothing, let him blame himself

  14. They will remove the dirt that has been swept away - it will drag more dirt that will gnaw and collapse more of what is left.

  15. My response to the Amsalem Foundation. Although I'm sure, there are people who think that the water, who are responsible for the collapse, are leftists... and all those who blame the mayor. There is a limit to what a mayor, even the best, can repair from past damage. This city was neglected for many decades.

  16. If they have known for a month that there is a problem with the wall, what courage and stupidity does the municipality have. A miracle that happened that there are no casualties does not cover up an omission!
It only predicts the future to come.

  17. Writing in the title "apparently due to the accumulation of mud at the bottom of the wall" has nothing to do with the collapse of the wall!
A wall does not collapse because of mud!!!
What can lead to a collapse is water pressure, which cannot be drained due to a lack of drains / clogged drains / poor planning of the drainage issue - releasing the water pressure behind the wall.

  18. His father Han, wise after the fact...
Why was his irrelevant response published anyway?
This wall was built according to an approved engineering design,
It is possible that during the performance there was an intentional or unintentional malfunction, you can try to investigate the actions of the performance contractors.
But to accuse the current mayor of a construction fault from 60 years ago is an unfair act and also indicates that the same person is not worthy to be mayor.

    • Who ever thought of choosing just come, he will bring a disaster to the city, it destroys and it will end, it is better to golan steinberg who fights to the city

  19. Are the articles not proofread? The amount of spelling errors is very large.

    • Is that what bothers you????? proofreading??? A retaining wall has collapsed with part of the pavement. Miraculously no one was hurt. This was a sign of many more hidden deficiencies that endanger the lives of the residents here on a daily basis. And what bothers the lady??? proofreading

    • Dear Mr. Meir, what bothers you, bothers you. Don't dream that you can disable another person for things that bother *them* in this flawed reality. And besides, let's look at it this way - today it's journalists who "throw" and don't proofread their articles and write with spelling mistakes and tomorrow it's a contractor/engineer who "throws" and as a result a wall collapses in the middle of the city. In short, try to accept others as they are and for sure they will accept you more as you are.

  20. The retaining wall that collapsed on Yad Labanim Street is not the first nor is it the last to collapse.
Recently, in order to establish a new neighborhood between Vardia Street and Geula Street, a large part of the rush was cut and a very tall and very long supporting wall was built. From the moment the wall was erected until today, a number of defects have already been discovered in it. The entrepreneur corrects the deficiencies, under the supervision and supervision of professionals on his behalf.
The feeling of the Wardia neighborhood residents who live near the wall is that in the future, this supporting wall may collapse, or partially collapse.
To the residents of the neighborhood, the municipality and the bodies responsible for this issue are satisfied with the results of tests by professionals paid by the developer.
The municipality shared the tenants' concerns and therefore promised, a very long time ago, that it would appoint professionals on its behalf to inspect the wall and provide the tenants with the opinions of those professionals. As mentioned, a very long time has passed. This opinion has not been accepted and probably will not be accepted either.
As far as the municipality is concerned, in the event of a disaster, God forbid, it is legally "covered" by the fact that the developer has provided it with the opinion of professionals on his behalf.
According to the residents of the neighborhood, an unimaginable irresponsibility of the municipality and the responsible parties.

  21. This is what Klish's tenure looks like in one picture, collapsing.
    Miraculously there were no casualties.
I have repeatedly demanded from the city engineer city-wide engineering tests of buildings and infrastructure, it was not done
When I become mayor, such tests will be routine and not after a disaster.
Avihu Han - candidate for mayor
    The greens of Haifa

    • You won't be mayor because you have no real plan for anything
In any case, as a resident, I ask you simple questions and you never answer, and either you don't have answers, or you put a short name on a resident who should choose you.
Therefore, in my opinion, say thank you if you join the council and continue to do nothing.

    • We heard you too, not really, it seems to me that all of you are missing, you didn't lift a finger, so the only units you see fighting are Sufi and Sarit

  22. "The stormy weather", "Mud at the bottom of the wall"...?!?
Why not tell the unfortunate truth: extremely poor planning and execution of the retaining wall!!
For the information of the "engineering factors" in the municipality: the wall is in a dangerous condition and may continue to collapse at any moment!!

    • The truth is that three weeks ago the resident of the city Mimi Peretz alerted me and said then no one took any notice and that's what happened

  23. Every Yad Labanim and Neve Yosef are built in this way, if they don't do something it will end the losses in the soul Mr. Barbie who cares so much for Neve Shaanan so these are the roads to the area you love so much

    • Yes, and Mrs. Mimi woke up three weeks before me, so maybe it would have been avoided, but the mayor doesn't care, that's how it seems, Mr. Barbie cares about this, he won't sleep all night because of worry, the chair interests him

    • All of Jezreeliya with its towers is built on extremely weak and problematic land that sits on the Yagur fault.
In fact, the entire area of Ramat Hadar and Jezreeliya is buildings with an hourglass until the disaster.
And who thinks that this will not happen in the huge and failed retaining walls built by contractors in Habiva Reich or in the Verdia slopes
Just a matter of time and enough shaking.

  24. There has been a blockade there for weeks, but beyond the blockade with iron posts the necessary steps have not been taken, luckily no disaster has occurred

    • On behalf of the fourth director general of the municipality that Klish brings and before he also resigns, we will give a short message on his behalf as he does in all other matters, and below is the message:
      "……………………………………………………".

  25. There is no infrastructure maintenance in the city, that's why it happened. Not because of weather

    • Sorry, the neighborhood council called Haifa Municipality maintains infrastructure very well:
      - Shi card infrastructure: increase in gifts for the holiday
      - Free car infrastructure for employees: attached cars have been added
      - Standards upgrade infrastructure: Dozens of standards have been upgraded
      - Welfare infrastructure: sending dozens of employees to luxury hotels for unnecessary conferences at the expense of the residents
Please here, all the infrastructures are upgraded.
Yours and for our sake, chairman of the committee
