(haipo) - The red fire ant is an invasive species that arrived in Israel from South America in the 60s and 70s.
There is a belief that the ant arrived following the importation of tree trunks by the manufacturers of the alvids. The fire ant is gradually spreading in all parts of Israel, it has no natural enemies in our country.
The sting of the fire ant is very painful and creates a red spot on the skin, like a burn.
The Ministry of Agriculture monitors its spread and tries to stop it.
