Effi Bat-Ilan's words:
Lotem Group – Volunteers for Urban Nature in Haifa
The Lotem Group is a group of citizens who organized themselves to strengthen the connection between the Haifa community and the wadis in general and the Lotem Stream in particular. The group has been working voluntarily for years with the aim of strengthening the connection with the stream and urban nature. The event that took place on Saturday night was a highlight, in which the residents walked along the cliff of the wadi to the zoo. At the zoo, the volunteers organized a meeting that included singing and playing by the Vocal Carmel Choir – a group organized by volunteer residents in central Carmel.

The activists explained about humans' observation of the wadi landscape, the animals, the plants, and the emotional involvement associated with the connection between humans and the wadi and the urban natural environment.

Sunset atmosphere and photo exhibition by volunteers
The event took place at sunset. The air was starting to cool and birdsong could be heard in the background – the chirping of the last light before the birds go to sleep.

The event also featured an exhibition of photographs taken by volunteers in the Lotem Stream. The group of photographers underwent training as part of a program initiated by the Carmel Drainage Authority. Some of the photographs are by the Lotem Group.

The event was announced in advance in Haifa in an article written by Efi Bat-Ilan, one of the organizers and the leading force of the Lotem community. Residents who registered in advance came to enjoy the special connection between the community, the stream, and Haifa's urban nature.
