Ten years after the launch of the project: "Ben Yaffe was born on the shoulder of the Carmel" a project whose goal was a digital commemoration of the martyrs of the IDF and victims of hostilities and the graduates of the schools in Neve Shanan. This tradition of the Remembrance Day ceremony, in cooperation with the schools in the neighborhood, has been going on for 10 years.
In the opening remarks Mrs. Rebecca Ginzburg said:
"This is the tenth year in which we are holding the "A beautiful son was born on the shoulder of Carmel" program, which began as an educational project as part of the sequence program between grades 6 and 7 in the study of the subject in combination with ICT and information literacy. During the learning, the students researched the lives of the fallen and turned their findings into a defining event for them A continuity of memory and a sense of community and national belonging. Over the years, the school principals changed and the project, with its vitality, continued to exist even under the new administrations."
The students did not know the fallers who are graduates of the schools they attend. They did not know the boys and girls behind the pictures on the commemorative walls in the schools, and unfortunately during these years, another graduate of the "Pichman" school - the late Yossi Moedi - was killed. The children were in close contact with his family members, were partners in building the website in his memory, and took part in the planning The commemorative wall at the entrance to the school.
This project was part of the "Transitions" project from elementary to LGBT. The 6th grade students of five elementary schools worked in a team with the 7th grade students of Urban High School C. While learning research, ICT and information skills, some of them built websites. The project won an award from the Foundation for Encouraging Educational Initiatives.
This evening, a ceremony was held "A beautiful son was born on the shoulder of Carmel" in memory of the fallen graduates of the "Ehud" school, which continued the path of the schools in Neve Shanan, led by the teacher Samdar Breslav.
It is fitting that this initiative, which educates about the price of life in our own country, with good citizenship, with sensitivity to others, should encompass all schools in Haifa. There is nothing more beautiful than it and it is never too late.
