(Haipo) – The Israel Police issued a clarification following reports about the attack on George Abu Shakara, an elderly man in his 80s in Haifa, and noted that contrary to claims made in some reports, the incident was not nationalistic. The police asked the public to refrain from spreading unfounded information.

Police deny nationalist motive for attack

A police spokeswoman said that the victim's testimony, the interrogation of the suspect who was arrested near the incident by Haifa police, and checks conducted with other parties indicate that the incident was not nationalistic in nature. The police emphasized that they are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident and asked the public to refrain from spreading unfounded and potentially misleading information. The clarification came in the wake of claims made in some publications regarding the motives for the attack.
