The Sail Tower (Hatil) in Haifa returns to full operation with a huge 16-year deal

(haipo) About a year after the Sail Tower ("The Missile") in Haifa was evacuated following an Iranian missile strike during Operation "With a Dog," the tower is currently returning to full functionality. Key government offices have returned to the tower, and the state has signed an agreement to extend the lease for another 16 years. The tower's owners, the Nazarian family, are expected to invest about NIS 100 million in upgrading it.

Government offices return to the Sail Tower

The Ministries of Justice and Education have returned to the Sail Tower in its entirety, alongside the Ministries of Interior, Health, Environmental Protection, Population Authority and other government ministries. The tower thus once again constitutes the lion's share of the district government complex in the city of Haifa. At the same time, the state signed a new agreement, led by Attorney Merav Gilboa and Oded Rehan of the S. Friedman Law Firm, to extend the leases of the government ministries in the tower for an additional 16 years. The Sail Tower covers an area of 31 square meters, with 25 floors above ground and 3 floors of underground parking. The building is owned by the N.M.N.B.S. company, controlled by the Nazarian family from the United States.

100 million NIS investment in upgrading the tower

The Nazarian family notes that although the building was not directly damaged and the structure's skeleton was not damaged in any way, the family will invest an additional 100 million NIS in upgrading the building's systems and infrastructure, including air conditioning, elevators, machine rooms, electrical panels, access control systems, fire extinguishing, restrooms, kitchenettes, and more. In addition, part of the budget is expected to be used by the state to further upgrade the floors it rents.

Dr. Sharon Nazarian, owner of the building, said: "For us, the Sail Tower is much more than 'another real estate asset,' it is the story of the country. An extraordinary, different and unique icon in the landscape, which no matter what, continues forward stronger, more upgraded, upright and prouder. Even when the building was forced to vacate, we knew that returning it was only a matter of time. We have recently allocated a designated budget of an additional 100 million NIS in order to return it to its tenants in even better condition than it was before the damage."

Dr. Sharon Nazarian concluded: "We believe in the building, the city and the state and are happy to see that it is mutual - the state also believes in us and has extended the leases of the government offices in the tower for another 16 years."

Important news for Haifa and its residents

Mayor of Haifa, Yona Yahav, welcomed the return of the government offices to the tower and said: "The return of the government offices to the Sail Tower is important news for Haifa and its residents. From the moment the tower was forced to vacate, I worked with all parties to return government activity to the heart of the downtown area and ensure that residents of Haifa and the north receive the services they deserve here." Yahav added that "the extension of the leases for many years and the significant investment in upgrading the tower are a clear expression of confidence in Haifa and its future, and in recognition of its importance as a metropolitan city serving over a million residents in Haifa and the north. The government center is a significant anchor in the downtown area, and the return to full activity will strengthen businesses, bring back thousands of workers and visitors, and help continue the momentum of the area's renewal."

  2. Questions:
    1. Did the Iranian missile cause the threat of the building collapsing?
    2. Does the money being invested now go partly to strengthen the building, or "only" to renovate the offices?

  3. Yahav, you promised that the residents of your city of Kiryat Haim and Kiryat Shmuel would be entitled to free transportation like in Jerusalem. A promise that must be kept. Perhaps you forgot. We did not keep the promise.
