(haipo) Parents of students at the Leo Beck School in Hadar found themselves in the middle of an educational and health storm this week, after their children returned home and said that during a class, the teacher gave them mouth drops, without any prior notification or parental consent. The incident, which occurred last week, sparked panic, anger, and difficult questions from the parents, who decided to officially contact the school administration and the Ministry of Education demanding an immediate investigation. They claim that this is serious conduct that does not comply with any educational or health procedures, and raises real concerns about harming the children's safety.
Parents' testimony: "The children came back and said they received drops from the teacher"
The incident was revealed when students told their parents that the teacher had entered the classroom and announced that she wanted to give them drops. The children, who did not understand what the substance was, received the drops during class. One of the mothers said that when she asked her son what the drops were, he replied that he did not know. According to her, “We send the children to school and trust the educational staff. The children come home and say that the teacher gave them drops in their mouths. This is unreasonable and unacceptable. No one informed us, did not ask permission, did not explain what the substance was. We are waiting for answers.”
Other parents joined in, emphasizing that this is an unprecedented event for them. They claim that it is impossible for a teacher to give children any substance, medical or otherwise, without the parents' knowledge and without examination by professionals.
Official contact with the school administration and supervision
Following the incident, the parents drafted an official letter that was sent to the school administration and the district's Ministry of Education. In the letter, the parents demanded an urgent and full investigation into the administration of the drops, the identity of the substance, its origin, and whether it was suitable for use in children. They noted that they had asked the teacher for a picture of the substance, but the picture they received showed a small glass bottle without any markings: no product name, no ingredients, no manufacturer, and no expiration date.
According to the parents, the teacher claimed that she purchased the substance privately in Georgia and that it was “related to bees.” But beyond that, no further information was provided. The parents wrote that up until the moment of writing the letter, they had not received a clear answer regarding the nature of the drops, what the ingredients were, whether they were approved for use in Israel, and whether they were safe for children.
Tough questions about liability, procedures, and health risk
The parents emphasize that beyond the question of the material itself, the teacher's conduct raises serious questions about professional responsibility. They ask how a teacher allows herself to give unidentified material to students, without any medical examination, without parental approval, and without consulting the school administration.
One mother said: “Did she ask herself what would happen if one of the children was allergic to this substance? How dare she take responsibility for the health of our children? We are simply shocked. This is not a matter of a small mistake, this is a serious deviation from any possible procedure.”
Other parents noted that even if it is a natural substance or some kind of extract, there is no justification for giving it to children without a medical examination. They emphasized that any substance given to students, even if it is not defined as a medicine, must be approved by professionals and undoubtedly requires explicit parental consent.
Ministry of Education response: “The issue is under review”
The district's Ministry of Education said that the matter is under review by the inspectorate and the professional and disciplinary bodies in the ministry. It was also stated that the inspectorate is accompanying the school administration in clarifying the incident. At present, no further details have been provided regarding the steps that have been taken or will be taken against the teacher.
The parents state that they expect a clear and detailed response, and not just a general statement about an investigation. According to them, the incident is too serious to end with a mere clarification, and that conclusions need to be drawn and responsibility imposed.
School administration: The school and district administration are taking the incident seriously.
It should be noted that the school administration sent a letter to parents informing them of the incident. "This week, during a science class in which they were learning about bees, a teacher gave students a taste of royal jelly (which she uses herself) - from an unlabeled bottle, and without parental permission," the letter to parents reads. "The incident was reported to the supervisory authorities and was immediately investigated by the school inspector who arrived at the school and consulted with the professional authorities in the district."
The district health officer immediately contacted the health bureau. The health bureau will investigate the incident, and after an investigation, it was decided to close the incident at the health bureau. The further handling of the teacher's conduct will be done by the Ministry of Education, in cooperation with senior officials. It was decided that the teacher will enter the classrooms with another staff member. The school and the district administration view the incident seriously and are handling it thoroughly in cooperation with all professional authorities."
The question of trust between parents and the education system
The incident has sparked a broader discussion among parents about the relationship between parents and schools. Many of them claim that their trust has been damaged. They point out that school is a place where children are supposed to be safe, and that any deviation from the procedures undermines the feeling of security.
Parents said they expect the school to be fully transparent, to keep them informed of any unusual actions, and to adhere to clear procedures. They emphasize that this is not a minor incident, but a case that requires a thorough examination of the conduct of the educational staff.
Is this an isolated incident or a broader problem?
Some parents raised concerns that this may be a broader phenomenon of administrative misconduct in schools. They noted that in recent years they have encountered cases in which teachers or staff members have taken actions without informing parents, although not on a scale as severe as the current case.
They say the incident at Leo Beck should be a wake-up call for the entire education system. They argue that there is a need for clarifying procedures for all teachers, professional training, and emphasizing the importance of maintaining clear boundaries between the role of the teacher and medical authorities.
Parents' demand: full transparency and clear steps
The parents are demanding that the school administration publish an official statement to all parents, detailing: the nature of the material given to the students, whether it was reviewed by professional bodies, whether it is approved for use in Israel, what the teacher's considerations were in administering the drops, and what steps were taken following the incident. According to them, only complete transparency can restore the trust that has been damaged.
Leo Beck School Administration: Silence that Disturbs Parents
Currently, the parents claim that they have not received an official response from the school administration. They note that this silence disturbs them and increases their sense of insecurity. They say that they expect the school to show responsibility and treat the incident with the seriousness it deserves.
Parents said they expect the school administration to initiate a meeting with the parents, explain the situation, and present the steps taken. They emphasize that this is an incident that cannot go unanswered.

Can I have a little too?
This is really bizarre, there are no words.
Total shock. Total shock.
A teacher gives children unclear material.
Where are the parents who will teach their children not to take anything?
Just disturbing on so many levels of dangerousness.
It's unbelievable that something like this happened. Simply unbelievable.
And by the way, it's strange and puzzling that on birthdays, parents bring sweets, cakes, and possibly allergens, without parental permission.
Others, by what right do you feed other children surprise bags? Who knows what surprises are in the bags?
And just as bad, at summer camps they hand out chocolate and a bun. Who knows where the bun was baked and what's in it.
And if the child is sensitive to chocolate, or to the gluten in the bun, or to anything else, who offers food to a child without a parent's permission?
What world do we live in??
Children are sensitive to gluten. To peanuts. To almonds. To read and write. We must first find out what the sensitivities are.
I'm interested to know what Dr. Alec and Ms. Egozi would say on the subject.
What's the problem? A few drops and be calm and quiet for 3-4 hours...
Especially in problematic classrooms…
