(haipo) – Haifa Deputy Mayor and Chairman of the Health Committee, Israel Savyon, this morning (Friday 5/12/25) intensified his criticism of Ireland, following the announcement by Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain, and Slovenia that they would not participate in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in protest of Israel's participation in the competition.
"Enough of Ireland's hatred of Jews and Israel"
Savyon sharply attacked the decision, saying: "Withdrawing from Eurovision is another attempt to harm us in the international arena. Enough of Ireland's hatred of Jews and Israel! Withdrawing from Eurovision is another attempt to harm us in the international arena."
Background: The "Herzog Park" riot in Dublin
Tensions between Israel and Ireland recently made headlines, following the recommendation of the Dublin City Council’s Commemoration Committee to remove the name of the sixth president of the State of Israel, Chaim Herzog, from the city’s “Herzog Park.” Even then, Savyon reacted sharply and called for a sharp diplomatic step: “Expel the Irish ambassador from Israel, that’s the minimum in the face of such a hostile step.”

This morning, Savyon reiterated his demand: "I am once again calling for the expulsion of the Irish ambassador from Israel. A country that chooses time and time again to act against us must understand that this has consequences. This is pure anti-Semitism and it is part of an ongoing campaign against the Jewish people."

We must come out decisively and accuse these countries of targeting Israel for anti-Semitic reasons - while they are getting along without any problems with countries around us that are murdering hundreds of thousands of Christians, Druze, Kurds.
