(haipo) – A large-scale move to strengthen the renovation industry and improve national emergency preparedness came to fruition this week, with the official licensing of 100 new renovation contractors. The contractors completed a dedicated safety training course, which was developed following the lessons of Operation "With a Dog" and as part of a collaboration between the Registrar of Contractors at the Ministry of Construction and Housing, the General Federation of Labor, and the Renovation Contractors Association.
A strategic move born from emergency lessons
The new training is part of a comprehensive staff effort conducted by the Ministry of Construction and Housing after the operation, with the aim of strengthening the renovation industry, removing regulatory barriers, and increasing the number of registered contractors. The key understanding that emerged from the process: In times of emergency, a broad, qualified, and supervised professional force is required that can provide a rapid response to the restoration of buildings and damage.
The ministry notes that after implementing the lessons learned and improving processes, the system is better prepared for emergency situations, while relying on contractors who operate in accordance with legal and safety requirements and are an integral part of strengthening the national capability of the civilian home front.
Closing knowledge gaps – and training that is tailored to the field
During the headquarters' work, a widespread phenomenon was identified: many candidates sought to register in the contractors' register but did not meet the legal requirements, mainly due to gaps in knowledge in the field of safety and regulation. To enable them to integrate into the industry in a regulated manner, a dedicated training track was formulated.
The training, conducted by the Institute for Safety and Health and consisting of three cycles, focused on critical issues:
- Safe work practices
- Preventing accidents on renovation sites
- Proper use of equipment
- In-depth familiarity with legal and regulatory requirements
At the end of the training, 100 new contractors met all the requirements and were registered in the contractors' register.
Part of a broad reform in the renovation industry
The move is part of the reform in the renovation contractor industry that recently went into effect, which includes:
- Increasing the scope of activities permitted to be carried out
- Upgrading the classification advancement mechanism
- Strengthening supervision and professionalism in the industry
The reform is designed to ensure that renovation work is carried out by qualified professionals, while maintaining the safety of workers and the public.
Statement from the Director General of the Ministry of Construction and Housing
The firm's CEO, Yehuda Morgenstern, welcomed the move and said: "Every action, small or large, to strengthen the construction industry is especially significant in times like these. We will continue to strengthen the industry, expand the circle of registered contractors, and work to raise the level of safety and professionalism for the benefit of the public, the workers, and the entire economy."
