Michal Sela Forum's response to the murder of Yana Zykova by her partner
"The difficult report of another murder of a woman, within such a short period of time since the previous murder, reminds us of the chilling statistic of a woman being murdered on average every 14 days. Tonight's case brings the number of people murdered in domestic violence this year to 23, of whom 15 are women and 4 are children. Behind every number stands a life that was cut short and a family that was destroyed."
According to data from the Michal Sala Forum, in 2025, 34 people were murdered in domestic violence, including 31 women and 3 children, an increase of 82% compared to the previous year. 51 children were orphaned following a murder in the family. These figures indicate a continuing state of emergency within homes in Israel.
As the weekend approaches, when families spend long hours together at home, it is important to remember that for women living under threats and violent control, the home can become a dangerous trap. It is precisely during these days that increased vigilance is required from those around them.
Femicide is the tip of the iceberg of ongoing violence. It is usually preceded by warning signs that can and should be recognized. We urge the public not to remain indifferent. Did you hear screams from the apartment next door? Did you recognize signs of distress in a friend, neighbor, or relative? Intervene, call for help, and don't wait for the next disaster.
"Our vision is zero homicides per year. To achieve it, we must move from post-murder responses to early identification, prevention, and protection of threatened women, before it is too late."
