(haipo) Carmel Regional Police investigators have solved the murder of Yonit (Yanina) Savada, which occurred at the end of September on Ha'atzmaut Street in Haifa. The findings of the investigation indicate that the background to the murder was the victim's desire to separate from her partner and leave him. A prosecutor's statement was filed against the partner suspected of the murder, in preparation for the filing of an indictment.
The stabbing incident and the arrest at the scene
The investigation was opened following a report of a stabbing incident on Ha'atzmaut Street in Haifa. Haifa police officers who were called to the scene located the victim lifeless and with severe signs of violence on her body. She was pronounced dead at the scene by medical officials. The victim's partner was arrested at the scene on suspicion of committing the murder. Since his initial arrest, his detention has been extended from time to time in court, throughout the investigation period, which lasted over a month.
An intensive investigation revealed an attempt to tamper with evidence.
During the intensive investigation assigned to the Carmel Regional Police Chief, suspicion arose that the victim's partner had attempted to tamper with evidence and present a false representation that she had harmed herself. The police chief's investigators, with the assistance of the Institute of Forensic Medicine and the Coastal District Criminal Identification Unit, were able to collect significant evidence, including the murder weapon found at the scene, and to form an evidentiary foundation linking the suspect to the act.

Prosecutor's statement filed – indictment expected soon
Upon completion of the investigation, the evidence was transferred to the Haifa District Attorney's Office, and a prosecutor's statement was filed against the suspect. This statement is a preliminary step to filing an indictment, which is expected to be filed in the coming days. This is the conclusion of a complex investigation that lasted over a month, during which the investigators were required to deal with attempts at disruption by the suspect and establish a solid evidentiary foundation that will stand up in court.
