(Haipo) – A ready-to-use IDF smoke grenade was found in a bag in the bushes near a public basketball court in Kiryat Bialik, after children found it and brought it to the school gate area. A police sapper handled the grenade, and the incident ended without casualties. An investigation was opened at the Zevulun police station.
Children found the grenade in the bushes while searching for a bullet
Initial investigation revealed that the children found the bag after school hours, while looking for a ball that had been lost in the bushes near the public basketball court. The children removed the grenade from the bag, and later returned the bag to the bushes. After school ended, the children returned to collect the bag and brought it to the school gate area. A teacher who was near the gate noticed what was happening, immediately intervened and reported it to the school principal, who called security forces, a patrol car, and a police bomb disposal unit to the scene.

Police officials who arrived at the scene took command and handled the incident. According to the report, it was an IDF smoke grenade that was ready to be used. The police saboteur handled the grenade, and in a search conducted by the police in the area where the bag was found, no other suspicious objects were found. An investigation was opened at the Zevulun police station to clarify the circumstances surrounding the grenade's location.
The director of the education department instructed to sharpen the guidelines among children
Following the incident, the director of the Kiryat Bialik Education Department, Ami Reuven, instructed the education teams to clarify the instructions for behavior when finding a suspicious object and explain them to the children. According to the instructions, a suspicious object should not be touched, opened or moved from its place, and should not be brought to school or anywhere else. The object should be kept away from, others should be kept away from the area and the police should be immediately reported. Children are also asked to immediately notify a responsible adult in any case of finding an object of this type.
