(Haipo) – A 50-year-old woman was killed this morning (Sunday, August 30, 2026) in a serious chain accident that occurred on Highway 2 near Atlit heading north. The accident involved several vehicles, and additional injured people were evacuated to Rambam and Hillel Yaffe hospitals. The Israel Police has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the fatal accident.

Fatal accident in the early morning hours
At 06:13, a report was received at the MDA 101 hotline about a traffic accident on Highway 2 near Atlit. According to fire department spokespeople, upon arrival at the scene, it became clear that it was a chain accident involving several vehicles. People were found trapped in two vehicles - one of them with no signs of life and the other conscious. Firefighters used hydraulic tools to extract the trapped people from the vehicles and transferred them to medical personnel.
A woman was trapped in a crushed vehicle and was pronounced dead.
MDA paramedic Netanel Menachem and MDA medic Linoy Azulai said that one of the vehicles was completely crushed and another vehicle overturned on its side, while the other vehicles sustained minor damage. Inside the crushed vehicle, a woman in her 50s was trapped, unconscious, without a pulse or breathing, with very serious injuries to her body. MDA teams performed medical examinations, but her injuries were significant and all that remained was to determine her death with multi-system trauma. A man in his 60s was trapped in the overturned vehicle while conscious, and MDA teams provided him with life-saving medical treatment during the rescue operations. After being rescued, he was taken to the hospital in serious condition with a head injury.
Injured were evacuated to Rambam and Hillel Yaffe hospitals.
According to spokespeople for Rambam Hospital, four victims were brought to the Rambam emergency room from the accident: a man in his 80s suffering from injuries and multi-system injuries in moderate condition, who is undergoing CT scans, after which a decision will be made on further treatment. Three additional victims are in the hospital emergency room in mild condition. Additional injured people were evacuated to Hillel Yaffe Hospital. The Israel Police has opened an investigation into the fatal accident, and police officers and traffic accident investigators from the Coastal District are at the scene to investigate its circumstances.
