Parking on the sidewalk • Blocking sidewalks and endangering pedestrians in Haifa

(haipo) – Worshippers who arrive in their cars at the synagogue on Galilee Street in the Neve Sha'anan neighborhood in Haifa, usually park on the nearby sidewalks, completely blocking the pedestrian crossing and the bus stop. According to residents, this is a regular phenomenon during prayer hours, making walking in the area dangerous and even impossible.

The phenomenon of vehicles blocking sidewalks has become a scourge in Haifa, a serious and dangerous phenomenon that directly affects the safety of pedestrians. In addition to preventing free and safe passage, it forces mothers with strollers, people with disabilities, and the elderly to get out onto the road into the heart of traffic, thereby endangering their lives.

The issue has been raised and published many times in the media, but so far there has been no real change on the ground. Although the parking shortage in the city is well known and felt, there is no justification for victimizing pedestrians and forcing them to behave in unsafe conditions.

Roy Ben Dahan, in a conversation with Chaifah, said: "Every time I pass by there during prayers, the sidewalk is completely blocked. It's simply unacceptable. I contact the municipality time and time again, but it's not addressed. If inspectors come, they only come after the prayer has ended and the worshippers have already left and the sidewalk is clear again."

The Haifa Municipality gave a response"Contrary to what is said, the Haifa Municipality carries out regular enforcement on Galilee Street, and every inquiry on this subject received at the municipal hotline is examined and handled professionally by the municipal enforcement department."

  1. I'm surprised that no one thinks of puncturing all four tires of a car parked on the sidewalk...
Of course, you're not allowed to do that, but you're also not allowed to park in a way that blocks the sidewalk, and that's not really enforced.

  2. It's simply crazy that for years I've been walking from Herzliya Street in Haifa to the Central Railway Station, parked on the sidewalk and walking the whole way on the road, literally risking my life, and suddenly there are prayers. The topic was raised in the context of Jews praying. Shame on you and the world, selective enforcement is a crime.

  3. Also on Leah Street and the corner of Alexander Yanai
There is no enforcement of parking on sidewalks.
Every day, they park on the sidewalks.
And also on envelopes at the entrance to private parking lots
The inspectors pass by, they don't care.

  4. Haifa Municipality doesn't know what it's doing
Take, for example, the Bonen Clinic on Moriah Boulevard.
There is a back parking area for health insurance visitors.
There are about 12 parking spaces there.
But at least 5 parking spaces that could be for visitors have become operational parking spaces for municipal vehicles.
And the funniest thing is that the city's hungry people also park in the clinic visitors' stores, which are not operational parking lots.
    Who enforces this?

  5. I wonder if this is only during prayers and only near synagogues?
The entire city has a severe parking problem. Why do I need to point out that it's next to a synagogue, as if the synagogue is the problem?
The real problem is that the Haifa Municipality does not provide parking spaces throughout the city!!!!

  6. Really interesting, I didn't see that you photographed the vehicles of residents from the second sector from the square near the former Armon Cinema and down towards the Geffen and all the surrounding area. I think the shops there and next to every shop are businesses, it's hard for you to see and report otherwise,,,,,, Oh my, oh my, dare you, you'll get screwed!!!!!

  7. Community policing… a fuel-wasting department, a bunch of “do-nothings” who get paid… idle and have fun… wrecking good cars.

  8. They also park on the sidewalks in the area around Bnei Zion Hospital. My wife and I walked there with our baby's stroller and had to go out onto the road and risk it.

  9. At the Northern Theater in Kiryat Haim, two inspectors are stationed every evening to give reports to theatergoers who park two wheels on the sidewalk, even for vehicles with a disabled license plate.

    • I parked near the North Theater...there is no parking...I got on the sidewalk...within minutes an inspector arrived and I received a 500 shekel fine...next time I will park near a synagogue in the area
This is the safest…..maybe I'll also wear a kippah….apparently it protects against fines….

  10. Ban parking on sidewalks throughout Haifa and install posts to prevent people from going onto the sidewalks.
They steal the Hersh sheep after cutting sidewalks for parking lots. At the same time, they also take the little sidewalk that remains where they didn't mark it.
Enough, this crosses all limits. There will be vandalism against vehicle owners who block buildings and it is justified. Don't cry when this happens because how much can you hurt pedestrians and residents who just want to walk on their street without going out onto the road to overtake vehicles!!!

  11. On Jaffa Street it's every day, all day long
    Park anywhere possible,
Not to mention double parking along the entire length of Jaffa Street, right next to Banks Street, no municipality, no police, you see, how there is zero governance, zero.

Not to mention the garbage on the sidewalks, filled with libraries, to a level that you can't see from the sidewalk.
Why aren't there any fines for throwing cigarette butts on the floor? Why???

  12. We traveled to 10 cities in Europe, all of which had parking shortages.
    On the main streets
We did not see any possibility of parking on sidewalks in any of them. Sidewalks are pedestrian areas and any possibility of a vehicle going onto a sidewalk should be prohibited, by all means including enforcement, towing, and fines.
A municipality that does not function – receives destroyed docks, streets with crime, traffic accidents, and ruined, blackened sidewalks that must be constantly repaired from the constant driving of vehicles and trucks on them.
A city without quality of life.

  13. The Haifa Municipality should not receive calls about roadblocks on HaGalil Street from the beginning of HaGalil to the Sephardi nursing home. The situation is very bleak. Enforcement is too sparse. There is no supervision. But in contrast, on Shalom Aleichem Street in Neve Sha'anan, there is camera supervision. And this is because they want to keep property taxes high for commercial buildings. HaGalil Street is perhaps the largest street. It is neglected. Sanitaryly, it is a wild west. Parking lots are high risk for children from Tel Hai School. There is no road washing compared to Hanita Street, where road washing is carried out with a road washing vehicle. The situation on the street is really failing from the municipality's perspective. Property taxes are high on HaGalil Street. There is no compensation. The mayor would be kind enough to take a tour.

  14. I have a complaint – vehicles arriving for concerts at the Rappaport Auditorium block my entrance to the villa, and this is very disturbing.

    • The Russian recipe: make large, colorful stickers that say, "I'm impudent, I spit on people and the rules, and I park wherever I want" and stick them on the windshield.

  15. Even in Kiryat Shmuel, residents can park wherever they want, the municipality doesn't force it on them.

  16. If it's only during prayer then it's acceptable!
At other times it's already a burden

    • Why is this acceptable during prayer?
Is a pedestrian who gets run over while praying considered righteous or something?

  17. In short, it is understandable that it is difficult for you to know that there are Jews who pray, and in Haifa, what can you do? You will remain indignant. The public who pray in the State of Israel is even larger and even more so….

  18. The most annoying thing is that they park right on the bus stop area. Then the bus driver can't get close to the sidewalk. People are forced to get down to the middle of the road to get on the bus. Usually I'm with bags and baskets with shopping - it's very difficult to climb to the high step of the bus, and I'm short myself. I take a picture and send it to the municipality, there's a response - your request has been received. That's it.
If the municipality wanted to make a profit, it would be enough to put cameras near the bus stops in Ramat Hanasi (Shufersal) and in the center of Kiryat Shaul - on France Road 63. Every day, cars are parked on the grounds of bus stops, and the municipality would earn thousands of shekels in one day just from fines.

  19. I was there yesterday and all of this is true, but to be fair, it should be noted that across the street is a unified health insurance fund and some of the campers actually went to it.

What is no less serious is that in the Neve Sha'anan neighborhood, more disabled parking spaces are being removed and eliminated, with the prior consent of both the residents and the municipality, every year. It's true that there is a parking shortage in Neve Sha'anan, so wow, what heroes you are for eliminating disabled parking spaces. This is a sodomite society.

    • Lahav, why are you spoiling their hatred for free? A Jewish synagogue is juicier than a health insurance fund.
      Enough!
Flow with them,,,it comes and goes and no one understands and wakes up?

  20. Nothing...I once parked on a sidewalk in Kiryat Haim...Immediately a 500 shekel report...The municipality doesn't deal with the religious...It's afraid...Shame on the Haifa Municipality...

  21. The municipality must respond in real time
But this is a tin city and doesn't want to enforce lawbreakers - this is what the city looks like
    tin
    tin

  22. The Haifa municipality is the worst municipality in the country. Maybe a few municipalities in the sector give it competition. Zero enforcement, only through cameras. The last thing they care about is public order. Only interested in money for more jobs for the senile old man's friends.

  23. Why didn't the photographer show that there was enough space for pedestrians? Is it because these are Jewish worshippers?

  24. Maybe it's worth publicizing what this synagogue is, who the population is that goes to it, and how their luxury vehicles constantly block the sidewalks and parking lots of the neighbors. Hint: They have connections with the police and the inspectors who come and hug them. And that's not the only nuisance that comes from this institution.

  25. It's not just in Neve Sha'anan, it's on every street in Haifa. It's happening on their mother's sidewalk and people have nowhere to go. Nowhere in Haifa. Why is there no enforcement in all of Haifa?

  26. People come to pray at the synagogue on Galilee Street and block the sidewalks. I remember walking there with my dog and having to go down to the road to cross, thereby endangering myself. What is their prayer worth if this is how impudent people behave and desecrate the sacredness of prayer?

    • Why are you blurring the license plate, so that everyone can see who it is? Taking as many photos as possible and distributing them widely might change something.

  27. This is a direct continuation of the lack of enforcement of car racing throughout the city, on the boardwalk, on the beach, and everywhere else.
Until they understand that only through serious meetings can order be achieved, not through reprimands.

  28. Sidewalks are meant for pedestrians, not parked cars. The municipality and its inspectors are still asleep. Please understand, residents of Haifa, why there are accidents in the city. The right of way is for parked cars, not for pedestrians. The municipality of Haifa is abandoning its residents. I live on Hashomer Street in Hadar, and it is impossible to walk on the sidewalk properly. It is a real shame that I am endangering, or the residents of the city are endangering their lives, because of the slumber of the municipality inspectors.

  29. The Haifa Municipality does not enforce parking on the sidewalk, or blocking crosswalks almost anywhere in Haifa. As a disabled person, I am unable to get to the supermarket. The application says we will treat … fever!

    • The Haifa Municipality doesn't care what happens in the entire city. In Kiryat Haim I regularly walk on the road because the cars park on the sidewalks. When I call the 106 hotline, they tell me it's a disabled person's car. Since when is a disabled person allowed to park on the sidewalk and I walk on the road?

  30. What kind of enforcement is there in Galilee 58????? I was almost run over by a worshiper at XNUMX:XNUMX in the morning while I was waiting for the bus to get to work when he decided to park his car next to me. What's more, he looked at me as if I was to blame for his sidewalk. It's like this every morning in the Haifa municipality, they won't accept it, they don't do anything there.

  31. The Haifa Municipality does not enforce on Galilee Street near the synagogue.
The Haifa Municipality enforces prohibited parking in places convenient to the Haifa Municipality.
If the municipality does enforce, the inspectors should arrive before the prayer begins and enforce the law. Selective parking enforcement has been in place throughout Haifa for years.

  32. I saw with my own eyes a city inspector motioning for his friend to get on the sidewalk next to the cafe where they met. I commented and was told that the owner of the car was in a position that required the car to be close. I am elderly but I am not stupid…. I tried to take a picture of the inspector and he shouted that the law forbids me from taking pictures and that they would confiscate my phone. Shame on the city for asking its inspectors.

  33. Tchernichovsky Street in French Carmel is the same and has been for years. I have lived there since 2019. The child was a year old in a stroller, it was impossible to cross the sidewalk because cars were parked on the sidewalk. Now the child is 7 years old and crossing a dangerous road at a life-threatening level. There is a crosswalk but no traffic light, the vehicles on the way down are speeding as if it were a highway, I have to pass a child in special education at the crosswalk, every time I pray that there will not be a car speeding by, that it will not have time to brake. The main thing is that they pay property taxes as if they live in Dania, the mayor does not even hang around in the sleepy neighborhoods like ours. Until another disaster comes along
