The Magic of the Fox Cubs in the Golan Heights: A Story of Life Among the Basalt Rocks

If you’ve been hiking in the Golan Heights recently, you may have noticed the adorable sight of sweet fox cubs, curled up among the dark basalt rocks. They’re small, furry, and insanely cute – it’s almost impossible not to be drawn to them. But behind the cute faces lies a fascinating story of real-life adventures in the field.

When are foxes born?

Red foxes, which are the most common foxes in the Golan Heights, like to start families in early spring – usually between March and April. After a gestation period of about 50 days, the pups are born, small, furry and infinitely sweet. Just like babies, they are initially closed in on themselves and go through the closed-eye stage, while at the same time they begin to feed on their mother’s milk.

How do they grow?

For the first few months of their life, the cubs stay with their family – that is, in a den among basalt rocks or in some other mysterious area. The mother and father work hard to bring them fresh food, mainly mice, insects and wild fruits. During the first few months, they hardly come out of hiding, but very quickly they begin to learn to run, jump and explore their surroundings.

Staying alive in the Golan Heights is not a simple matter.

Life in the field, even for a sweet little fox, is not always easy. Alongside the natural population, there are also other predators such as eagles, wild cats and also dealing with changing weather. But foxes are very smart creatures – they use their excellent camouflage and basalt rocks as protection, hiding carefully and detecting dangers from afar.

Tips for those who want to meet foxes without disturbing them

If you want to see foxes in the Golan Heights, it’s important to keep your distance and not disturb them. Don’t try to touch or feed them – they will stay healthier and safer if left in the wild as they are. Best? Take a good camera with you, sit still, and let the foxes decide when they want to show themselves.

  1. Yariv every time I am and more surprised than you. You are simply looking to take things out of context. What about Zionism and the Association of Cities? With all due respect, Sarit was the chairman of the Association of Cities for 10 years and fought for both to get Bazan out of here, along with environmental activists who gave their lives to this war. So please, if you have any questions, contact her. She is the only one who understands the subject and can answer you, too. Good luck.

The week begins

The week begins between despair and hope, between stagnation and success, between a look and a peak, between the president's statements, a hint and a signal, and an escape route. The meeting ended with Israel literally "racing" to a burning Gaza. And to the "voiceless" families who are doing everything, who are shouting their word, "Bring them all back in one deal."
