(haipo) – The public transportation boom is coming to Karmiel, centered on a dramatic improvement in connectivity to the city of Haifa and the Kiryat Shmona. The Ministry of Transportation and the National Public Transportation Authority, in cooperation with Egged, are presenting a new and updated set of lines that will go into effect this Friday (8/28/26), allowing Karmiel residents a faster, more comfortable and more continuous journey to the employment, commercial and transportation centers of the Haifa metropolis.
New lines, fast routes and improved night service
The move includes a significant reinforcement of the intercity service from Karmiel to Haifa, Kiryat Ata and Acre.
- Line 261 will receive a new night alternative that will operate throughout the week and on Saturday nights, instead of line 215, which will continue to operate only on Friday nights. The night route will be extended to the Big Center in Karmiel and in the opposite direction to the Hasmona Center train station in Haifa, a move that strengthens accessibility to entertainment, commercial and transportation hubs.
- Line 262 It will provide fast and direct service along Sderot Nasei Yisrael in Karmiel, to Haifa and Kiryat Shmona, and will enable faster transit between the center of Karmiel and employment centers in the metropolitan area.
- Line 263 Between Karmiel and Acre, a route change will be made to better suit the needs of passengers.
Minister of Transportation: “A more convenient, accessible and efficient service for Karmiel residents”
Minister of Transportation and Road Safety, Brigadier General (res.) Miri Regev, welcomed the move: "Upgrading the public transportation system in Karmiel is a significant step towards improving service to the city's residents. The Ministry of Transportation is strengthening the connections between the neighborhoods, employment areas, the train station and commercial centers. Along with improving municipal service, we are also strengthening connectivity to Haifa, Kiryat Shmona and Acre. The Ministry of Transportation will continue to work to adapt public transportation to the needs of residents and improve the quality of service."
What does it mean for residents?
The move is expected to shorten travel times, improve the frequency of lines, and create a convenient transportation connection between Karmiel and the employment and educational centers in Haifa and the Kiryat. For many of the city's residents, this is an upgrade that returns public transportation to being a real alternative to the private car.
Did the article interest you?

What does this article help with? All the buses that leave from Karmiel do not serve the Rabin neighborhoods and only travel on the main road….
Think about the fact that everyone who lives in Rabin was told to "leave Rabin with a city bus for the presidents of Israel... wait for another bus to Haifa/Acre and then there's also a metro... a waste of time... where exactly is the "improvement" in transportation??
Just an unprofessional and clearly irrelevant article!! And it's not a bot that wrote the comment!
Shame. Left the residents of Karmiel without effective sewer lines.
Students cannot reach schools from the neighborhoods, and all of this is for the benefit of Haifa.
Election economics?
