(haipo) The Ministry of Education published today (Sunday, 8/23/26) the list of 436 upper division schools from across the country that will receive differential compensation for the 2016 school year. The schools have significantly advanced their achievements in the ethical, social, and academic areas, and their teaching staff will receive financial compensation of up to NIS 9,934.79.
"Excellence is also measured by the ability to strengthen values and responsibility"

Minister of Education Yoav Kish He commented on the win and said that "excellence in education is not measured only by academic achievements, but also by the ability to advance students, strengthen their values, responsibility and involvement, and lead them forward." According to the minister, "the 436 winning schools express exactly this combination. Behind the achievements are teachers who do this work every day with dedication and professionalism, and this reward is recognition for the work and the results."
The financial compensation for teaching staff at the winning schools ranges from 3,725.54 shekels to 9,934.79 shekels, in accordance with the agreement reached between the Ministry of Education, the Teachers' Union, and the Ministry of Finance, as part of the "Zeal for Change" reform.
Not just grades: Ethical and social indicators determine the winners
The selection of the winning schools was based on a weighting of a series of indicators in the ethical, social and academic areas, as well as according to the rate of improvement made by the educational institutions. The Secondary Education Division of the Pedagogical Administration worked for a long period to process the data, based on the complexities that characterized the recent school years.
Among the indicators included in the weighting: the rate of recruitment into the IDF or national/civilian service, prevention of student dropout, integration of special education students, the percentage of eligibility for matriculation, the percentage of excellence in matriculation exams, the percentage of eligibility for a quality matriculation certificate, and the degree of improvement compared to schools' achievements in the previous year.
Four levels of compensation for teaching staff
The grant amounts for teaching staff in the winning divisions were divided into four levels:
At the first level (1) – teaching employees will receive 9,934.79 shekels
Second level (2) – 7,451.10 shekels
Third level (3) – 4,967.40 shekels
At the fourth level (4) – 3,725.54 shekels

Director General of the Ministry of Education, Meir Shimoni, noted that "the achievements of the winning schools are the result of consistent educational work that is done every day in classrooms and schools. The ability to advance students in academic achievements, while at the same time preventing dropout, integrating students and strengthening their social involvement, reflects the professionalism and commitment of the educational teams."
A broad concept of excellence and district pride
Ina Salzman, Deputy CEO and Director of Pedagogical Administration, She emphasized that "this year, the recognition of schools reflects a broad concept of excellence; not only an increase in achievements and pedagogical quality, but also the students' ethical actions, volunteerism, recruitment and social involvement." She said, "In a complex and ongoing period, we also value the consistent educational leadership, the resilience of the teams and the ability to raise students who express responsibility, values and leadership alongside academic achievements."
District Administrator, Sigal Cohen, expressed pride and added: "Winning the differential reward is only visible evidence of the hard and daily work of the principals, teachers and educational staff, who work tirelessly for the students, both in leading to academic and pedagogical achievements and in establishing values, resilience and social involvement."

A girl from Leo Beck High School in Haifa sends a message to her father from a school trip:
"They're showing us videos of bereaved Palestinian families and not letting us leave here. I want you to talk to someone from the school administration now."
The students protest.
In my opinion, the state funding should be taken away from the school and they should only keep the budget they receive from foreign organizations.
What is the recruitment percentage from Alkarma School that is ranked at level 1?
It's enough to lie to us with shattered criteria if you don't meet them later.
We don't need to reward teachers, we need to privatize the education system. It's not possible for the most expensive ministry among government ministries to throw away 70 billion shekels that in every international comparative test doesn't meet expectations and only produces lower and lower achievements compared to the rest of the world, the classrooms are crowded and the lack of education produces delinquent youth.
