(haipo) – Following the increase in measles cases in the city of Haifa, the Ministry of Health announced Haifa as the epicenter of a measles outbreakIn light of the increased risk of community transmission, health institutions have been instructed to act in accordance with guidelines tailored to outbreak areas, including: Advancing vaccine doses and expanding protection among infants and young children.
It is important to note that the ministry defines a place as having a measles outbreak when there are two or more patients with an epidemiological link between them, and within a specified time frame. In such a case, preventive and spread-control actions can be taken immediately, including the introduction of the second dose of the vaccine starting at age one and a half, and a recommendation for an additional vaccine for infants aged 6-11 months.
Since the end of October, a total of five measles cases have been reported in Haifa, including two unvaccinated siblings who were infected in Jerusalem at the end of the previous month. In addition, three patients have been diagnosed in recent days, one of whom is hospitalized.
The Ministry of Health reiterates that measles is a preventable disease through an effective and safe vaccine.
The ministry emphasizes the importance of arriving on time to receive medical treatment when symptoms appear or when infection with the disease is suspected. Arriving on time saves lives.
The Ministry of Health informed Lahi Pa:
Following the increase in measles cases In the city of HaifaWe are declaring Haifa a measles outbreak. In light of the increased risk of infection in the community, guidelines tailored to outbreak areas must be followed, including:
- The recommendation for measles vaccination for infants aged 6-11 months will be repeated. These infants will be vaccinated with the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine only. Parents should be informed that this dose is expected to provide approximately 70%-85% protection for infants during the current outbreak, but will not be counted in the routine vaccination dose count. These children will be vaccinated again with the measles-mumps-rubella-varicella (MMRV) vaccine starting at 1 year of age, at least 4 weeks after the MMR vaccine dose.
- Recommendation for bringing forward the second dose of the measles vaccine. The recommendation applies to children up to 6 years of age who received the first dose of the vaccine, starting at the age of one year, provided that at least three months have passed since receiving the first dose. This dose replaces the dose given in the first grade vaccination routine, and there is no need to give an additional dose at this age.
- This outbreak joins other active outbreaks in the cities of Jerusalem, Beit Shemesh, Bnei Brak, Modi'in Illit, Harish, Nof HaGalil, Kiryat Gat, Ashdod, Netivot, Tekoa, Mateh Binyamin Regional Council, Beitar Illit and the city of Safed.

It is time to declare the ultra-Orthodox public a sick public that refuses to be vaccinated, close their schools, and place them in a forced quarantine until 100 percent of the children are vaccinated.
