A first-of-its-kind emergency exercise was held at the Haifa Port, during which the port's fire and emergency crews practiced rescuing casualties from a container ship. The exercise was designed to test the forces' readiness for emergency scenarios unique to the port's marine environment.

A unique exercise on board a container ship
As part of the exercise, which was held for the first time at the Port of Haifa, fire and rescue forces operated alongside the port's emergency team in a scenario of rescuing casualties from an MSC container ship. The participating forces faced the unique challenges of operating on board a ship, including narrow passages, varying heights and heavy equipment. The fighters were equipped with full protective equipment, including breathing masks and rescue devices, and practiced evacuating casualties using stretchers from confined spaces on the ship.

Strengthening emergency preparedness at the port
This emergency exercise, the first of its kind at the Port of Haifa, reflects the importance that port authorities and fire departments attach to improving preparedness and preparedness for emergency scenarios in the complex maritime environment. Operating a container ship poses different operational challenges than those encountered on land, and therefore requires a dedicated and tailored exercise. The cooperation between the fire departments and the port's emergency team is a key component in ensuring a rapid and effective response capability in the event of a real incident in the port area.
