Green light for doubling the coastal railways
60% of Israeli residents will be able to reach the Tel Aviv metropolis within 60 minutes; 60% of the peripheral residents will reach Tel Aviv within 90 minutes; The waiting time for the train will be about 7.5 minutes on average.
The Committee for National Infrastructures (NEC) approved this evening (Monday 21/12/20) the plan of the Ministry of Transportation and Road Safety to double the coastal railways. This is a significant leap forward in the development of the national railway network and public transport in general.

Minister of Transportation and Road Safety Brigadier General (resp.) Miri Regev Lahi Fe:
This is a historic move in the full sense of the word. According to her, the doubling of the coastal railways, which is currently a transportation 'bottleneck', is the first step on the way to doubling the network of passenger and cargo trains throughout the country. This is how we will connect the center to the periphery and ensure available and fast public transportation for every person in every locality in Israel.
Israel Railways is an important component of the public transportation network. Last year the train transported more than 70 million passengers. One of the busiest and most sought-after routes is the coastal railway, a major national transportation artery that connects Gush Dan with Haifa and the north of the country, and shortens travel times between the center and the periphery. Today, the route includes only two tracks, and is a "bottleneck" preventing the further development of the national rail network.
The vision of the future public transportation is based on a continuous, high-frequency connection between Haifa and Tel Aviv, so that every passenger can reach the station and board a high-speed train to the district of their choice within a few minutes, without having to plan and adapt to schedules.
In order to allow such a high frequency, it is necessary to double the coastal railway and add two high-speed railways in the section between the "Hafaretz Central" station in Haifa and the connection to the new Sharon railway in the area of Kfar Shmariahu. The plan will enable a significant shortening of the travel time from the north of the country to the center, without intermediate stops and without the need to change trains.
The plan includes upgrading the existing tracks so that they allow travel at a speed of 160 km/h, adding two new tracks planned for a speed of 250 km/h, and adding two suburban tracks between Netanya and Shfeiim.
With the completion of the works, the travel time from Haifa to Tel Aviv will be shortened from 50 minutes to only 28 minutes, and the frequency of travel will increase to 14 trains at peak time - a train every 4.5 minutes only! The number of stations between Haifa and Tel Aviv will increase to 11, and the number of passengers on this route is expected to increase to about 30,000 passengers during peak hours in both directions.
The doubling of the coastal railway is part of the national infrastructure plan (TTL 65A) for the deployment of a network of high-speed railways throughout the country, which was approved by the government in July 2014 and whose budget is estimated at approximately NIS 31 billion. The plan includes the development of housing, commercial and employment complexes near the stations and the construction of freight terminals and railway border crossings for passengers and cargo. Sub-Tal 65 is based on the strategic plan for the TMA 23 and TMA 42 railways.
The coastal railway is the main backbone of the national railway network, and currently carries 7 trains per hour in each direction, during peak hours. In the existing situation, where there is one rail in each direction, it is not possible to increase the frequency of trains on the line.
The doubling of the tracks is essential for promoting the strategic plan of the Ministry of Transport and Israel Railways for 2040, which was drawn up in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance. The goals of the program are to transport 300 million passengers and 40 million tons of cargo per year, in a network that includes approximately 150 train stations. This is a significant growth compared to the current situation, of 70 million passengers per year (only 36 million at the beginning of the decade), about 9 million tons of cargo, and about 70 stations.
The principles of the program include:
physical separation of the passenger network from the freight network through separate rail systems; Establishing a hierarchical passenger network separating high-speed intercity service (up to 250 km/h) and suburban/regional service (up to 160 km/h), on a separate rail infrastructure; and development of housing and maintenance complexes, cargo terminals and border crossings.
With the completion of the strategic plan, 60% of Israeli residents will be able to reach the Tel Aviv metropolis within 60 minutes; 60% of the peripheral residents will reach Tel Aviv within 90 minutes; 70% of the population will be within a 60-minute drive from the nearest metropolis; 80% of them will live up to 7 km from a train station; and the waiting time for the train will be about 7.5 minutes on average.

All the best for the blessed initiative.
will also solve the crowding problem.
will allow soldiers to travel again.
It is not clear why they stopped train traffic on Friday and Saturday.
Why did they stop the train on Shabbat?
All of Rafi Hason's responses are appropriate for the Messiah. Fun for him.
Will there be a budget left for this, after the damage from the Iranian bomb is repaired?
Response to Rafi Raful Hasson:
Your response will be appropriate in 2030, after the corona.
And another half hour waiting at the station entrances?
when will it happen?
It might happen that my grandson who is 5 months old will be a grandfather himself
For some reason it sounds like election propaganda, it is a plan that by the time it is realized the population will increase significantly and the plan will not be able to meet its goals.
And in general, what about putting the track underground in the section that goes into Haifa, a section that cuts off the city from the coast? It's a shame that they don't think about the Neza aspect, which is much more important to Haifaim. We have one of the most beautiful beaches in the country that the city does not have access to.
Went to the Bat Galim neighborhood and the port quarter.
The noise of the number of trains and the electrification and fencing and taking another huge strip of land will create intolerable conditions.
And you don't hear the municipality's voice on this issue, the subsidence disappears as if it never was..
The Messiah will arrive on the new track of the valley train
and the Carmel Castle cable car.
The University cable car must be continued up to the Carmel Castle.
An additional track must be laid for the valley train.
So there will be a power train every 15 minutes instead of every hour.
Traveling by Israel train is a pleasure. You should go by train.
Bringing the Messiah seems more real than these grandiose plans. He will already arrange everything and for free...
