A sophisticated sting mechanism was revealed that cost the elderly millions of shekels

The police told Lai Pa:

Coastal District police officers from the fraud unit solved a "Russian sting" case involving millions of shekels against Russian-speaking senior citizens - at the end of the investigation, an indictment was filed against the main suspect, a 19-year-old resident of Nesher.

During the recent period, an undercover investigation was conducted in the Coastal District Fraud Unit after it began at the Nesher station in the Carmel area, and revealed a sophisticated sting mechanism operating throughout the country, systematically targeting elderly citizens of Russian origin.

Fraud investigators revealed that the scammer gang operated through call centers from abroad, impersonating police officers and bank employees, and succeeded – through pressure, intimidation, and misrepresentations – in extracting access details to their accounts from innocent victims, taking out digital loans in their names, transferring funds to international accounts, and even taking control of their mobile devices using advanced technological means.

It also emerged that the scammers used to send couriers, taxi drivers, and contacts to collect money or credit cards from the victims' homes, and even had video calls with them while wearing police uniforms and presenting fake IDs.

As part of the investigation, the police were able to uncover and trace the identity of the suspect, a 19-year-old resident of Nesher, and linked him to 30 additional cases, at different times and places, of withdrawing money using these methods - without the consent of the victims.

The court granted the police request and extended the suspect's detention from time to time.

Upon completion of all investigative activities in the fraud unit, the police were able to form an evidentiary foundation against the suspect and prove that he committed the acts, and an indictment was filed against him in court.
