Yaakov Berkowitz, a 9th grade student at Urban High School A, received this week the Elad Rivan volunteer badge that perished in the Carmel disaster.

The award was presented to Jacob by Elad's parents, Tzvia and Emil, in an exciting ceremony held at the Dan Carmel hotel on the Carmel with the participation of: Eran Dubovi, Director of the Education and Culture Department of the Haifa Municipality, Danny Fessler, representatives of the Joint Israel organization.

Jacob Berkowitz was already elected in the 8th grade as the chairman of the school's student council and is even active in the municipal youth council. Yaakov initiates activities for his classmates, students, activities for the community, activities at the Sephardi Synagogue, at the Henrietta Sold Special Education School.
Jacob became the right hand of the school administration, who invites him to meetings and consults with him regarding student activities.
Jacob is an example of true leadership, and he draws many students after him: he holds council meetings in an orderly manner, prepares tables for meetings and is an example of initiative and responsibility.
In addition, he serves as an instructor in the national youth, is active in the anniversary program, helps with the branding of the school, represents the school at conferences, etc.
From the reasons of the award committee: "His leadership ability and personal abilities in the social field are exceptional. Jacob stands out in his actions in a way that inspires astonishment. For his adherence to the values ​​of volunteerism and because leadership has become his way of life, the award committee found Jacob worthy of the Magen Elad community for volunteering in 2012."
