(haipo) – According to a Ministry of Health publication (22/6/25), low-risk mothers and newborns will be discharged from the hospital after 12 hours, as a result of the security situation. Early discharge from the hospital is conditional, among other things, on the approval of a neonatologist (neonateur) and a gynecologist after examining the mother and newborn.
משרד הבריאות Today (Sunday, 22/6/25) published the procedure defining that, in light of the security situation, low-risk mothers and newborns will be discharged from the hospital to their homes after 12 hours.
The release will be carried out according to the following principles:
- Approval from a neonatologist after examining the newborn.
- Approval from a gynecologist after examining the mother.
- Performing a medical examination for a newborn.
- Checking the condition of the mother on the second day of the newborn's life.
- If the test cannot be guaranteed, you will not be discharged from the hospital.
In addition, the procedure states: - Continuous screening tests for newborns after 36 hours – the responsibility of the health bureaus.
- Completion of a hearing screening within 30 days – the hospital's responsibility.
Commitment to complete other actions if these have not been performed:
- Vaccinations – the responsibility of the milk drops.
- Medical examination – the responsibility of the health insurance fund.
As part of the early discharge, information about newborns who were discharged early from the hospital will be transferred to representatives of the health fund and the health bureau, in accordance with the list that is transferred from the hospital to the health bureau prior to discharge.

In Israel, the routine discharge policy for pregnant women and newborns is to be discharged from hospital at least 48 hours after birth.
