Article: Iran Facing the Attack – Legal, Political, and Media Interpretation

According to Article 2(4) of the Charter of the United Nations, any attack on the territorial integrity of a State or the use of force against it is expressly prohibited. Therefore, any military action against the sovereignty of another State – including the recent attack on Iran – constitutes a violation of international law. The use of the term “preemptive attack” in this case is nothing more than an empty legal excuse, designed to legitimize the act retrospectively.
Despite repeated threats – both overt and implied – from the Zionist regime, the Islamic Republic of Iran has maintained restraint over the past few months, and has not shown any real intentions to attack the occupied territories. Its positions have focused solely on responding to threats, making it clear that its response will only come if sovereign sites or Iranian citizens are actually threatened.
In the nuclear field, there are clear precedents and norms prohibiting attacks on nuclear facilities. Article 9 of the IAEA Statute, as well as Article 56 of the Additional Protocol, emphasize the Agency’s responsibility to ensure the protection of nuclear facilities from attack, sabotage or destruction – especially facilities containing fissile material. These principles have also been expressed in Resolutions 407 of the IAEA General Conference, and in particular Resolution 487 of the UN Security Council – and clearly enshrine the prohibition of attacks on nuclear sites within the framework of international law.
Moreover, the United States also stands on Israel's side. The words of the American president and other officials, written in an implicit but clear tone, express not only knowledge but also indirect encouragement of the action. This means that Washington is not just a witness - but a full partner in the process. This is a blatant violation of the norms of international negotiations, and not just of international law.
The Zionist regime and the United States seek to complete their action through media propaganda, which will present Iran as responsible for the failure of the negotiations and the destabilization of the region. In the face of this attempt, beyond military retaliation (which is not the subject of this article), Iran has a political role: to present the act as a blatant violation of international law and to bring about widespread condemnation of Israel in the international arena. This task requires broad diplomatic mobilization and political transactions that go beyond what has been on the Foreign Ministry's table so far. All national capabilities must be harnessed and action must be taken at the highest levels.
Alongside this, a new, accurate, effective and global media narrative must be designed. The media campaign is no less important than the political response. Weak performance in this area could allow Israel to build its own narrative and gain international legitimacy. We must be clear, consistent and convincing.
It is also important to understand: Iran's situation today is different from what it was in the past. To create effective national cohesion, all political and social forces must be harnessed. This is not about internal restrictions, but rather about creating openness, which will increase the sense of solidarity and support at home and abroad.
Finally, in the fields of expertise of international law and politics, all the talents and abilities operating in the Iranian arena must be exhausted – without political or partisan considerations. The era of internal political competition is over. Now, personal sacrifice is required for the good of the country. Only in this way will Iran be able to cope with the critical situation in which it now finds itself.
