Tzipi Rom, Haifa gossip pioneer, passes away at age 87

(Live here) – the late Tzipi Rom, one of the most recognizable figures...

I was one of the only ones in the class who didn't belong to any youth movement. Playing music took up a lot of my free time, so I gave up on the idea. Some of the kids wore khaki, some wore blue shirts and different laces. Whether it was the "Scouts," the "Young Guard," or the "United Movement." In the third or fourth grade, the headhunters from the youth movements began to arrive. The nicest and most convincing ones were chosen for this role, whose job it was to recruit members for the movement.
Represent.

Moshe Glass, a veteran Haifa resident, a Haifa sailor and someone with an affinity for simplicity and honesty, tells his stories and his influence on choosing the movement, as he wrote:

"The most vocal children went to Hillel Scouts, Gadi Yagil Zigelman, Yona Yahav and others, and the beautiful girl from my class (Yordana Arazi) went to Reali Scouts. It was an easy choice, wasn't it?" A representative of the United Movement came to the Hogim school one day in an attempt to recruit more children to his movement. In order to attract our attention, he announced that he was organizing
A football game between the movement and 'HaKow' Haifa, and at the end a trophy will be awarded. Anyone who registered with the movement will be able to participate in the game. As soon as I heard trophy, I forgot about the violin and immediately registered. We were told to wait a few days for an announcement about the date of the game.

On the appointed day, we showed up at the 'HaKuaq' field. Nearby, as mentioned, were two fields of the senior teams in Haifa in Kiryat Eliezer. 'Maccabi' and 'Hapoel'. The 'HaKuaq' field was surrounded by parts of a chain-link fence, most of which had been stolen and is no longer there. The remains made it clear that it had been a fence. Everything was rusty and gave off an old and shabby atmosphere. The field was all packed earth and small stones scattered around. The lime marks on the field were mostly covered by the earth. The goals had no nets.
I took on the role of left striker, even though I kick with my right foot and am excellently trained as a goalkeeper in general. This is the role that remained after the lineup was drawn up. The choice was either to play or to sit in the crowd of spectators, which numbered several dozen children. In neighborhood games, I developed an "obscene" habit of kicking a lot at goal. In the neighborhood, the goals are small, and a child goalkeeper managed to stop here and there. The goals on the current field extend seven meters long, and there is no chance for a goalkeeper of our level to catch a ball that is kicked well into his goal.

I understood this quickly and scored a few goals in a short time. Someone from the opposing team apparently decides to eliminate the phenomenon and during one of my runs forward from the left towards the center, he runs in front of me and kicks me hard in the right knee. A few rolls and I was left lying on the ground.

I didn't reach the level of the above, so I stayed in music (Illustration: Ilan Segal)

For me, the game was over and the "United Movement" never saw me again. We received the trophy and I came home limping with a swollen and painful leg. This knee had bothered me on and off for many years. I was involved in sports but suffered from pain in my right knee that came and went while running long distances, participating in competitions up to
At the age of forty, I had a difficult, even complex surgery. The condition improved, but since that game and that surgery, my knee has not returned to the way it was when I emerged from my mother's womb.
I was unable to attend the celebrations for winning the aforementioned trophy.

  1. My dear friend Rafi!
Sorry but you are wrong. Esther lives in 7A and I live in 7. I have visited the place several times over the years, that is why I am so sure. Dalia was my friend before I was in the ghetto. All the stories will come. I was born in 1941.

  2. Did you know Esther Sadovnik in 7A? I had many friends in Arlozorov.
Shimon Reichstadt, Moshe Habout, the sisters Nili and Hedva Cohen, Yoram Kizler and many more.

    • My friend Ilan,
The Sadovnik family lived in 7th, not 7th A. Esther was a classmate of my brother.
If I'm not mistaken, there's a 3-year difference between you and me (I was born in '46), so I had no contact with your friends in Arlozorov. I knew who Moshe Habut was because his entire family lived across the street from me at the beginning of Bar Giora - Arlozorov 89, and besides, if I'm not mistaken, he was the husband of Dalia Leon, the beauty queen of Israel in 1961. I didn't know Shimon Reichstadt personally, except as the husband of Esther from the "Oferim" group. The other names you mentioned are unfamiliar to me.

    • We lived in 7A, which is basically the same building but with 2 entrances, so I had no connection to the residents of 7.
In No. 9 I actually remember the family of Dina and Zvi Tzipin who had 2 sons, Amnon and Shmuel. Dina was my brother's caregiver so I remember them well. Even when we moved to Arlozorov, my parents continued to keep in touch with them.

  3. I remember at number 9 the Shitrit whose cousin was a friend of mine and I had a big restaurant for him in Herzl, on the corner of the Prophets.
Above it was Eli Pazbalo's barbershop (more stories to come). There were the Zimelson (Zimel) and Yitzhaky families and on the third floor there were two older brothers whose names... I didn't bother to remember them. Most importantly, what year are you talking about?

  4. To Rafi!
I remember Moshe from Facebook. I remember all the neighbors from Emek HaZeitim 9 and I don't remember a name like that.
He disappeared from Facebook for good.
    Uri, my dear friend!
I'll come for coffee and we'll talk about my knee problems.
