(Hai Pa) – In recent days, three toddlers, aged nine months to two years, have arrived at the “Ruth” Children’s Hospital at Rambam Medical Center, suffering from serious infections. Two of them were diagnosed with meningitis, and the third is suffering from a complication of a blood infection.
Dr. Rotem Lapidot: “If it turns out that all three cases were caused by the lack of vaccines – this is a grim reality that could have been prevented”
Tests conducted at the hospital indicate that in two of the three cases, the infection was caused by a bacteria whose spread could have been prevented by the vaccines recommended by the Ministry of Health. In the third case, laboratory investigation is still ongoing to determine whether it is a strain of bacteria that is included in existing vaccine protection.
Fortunately, the condition of each of the children is now stable, and all three have shown clinical improvement after starting treatment.

Dr. Rotem Lapidot, director of the pediatric infectious diseases unit at Ruth Hospital, describes the situation as unusual and worrying: “The laboratory investigation process takes time, and in the meantime the children are being treated by a dedicated medical team. However, if it turns out that all three cases are the result of non-vaccination, this will be a very sad outcome – this is a reality that could have been easily prevented.”
