Wild boars return to the streets of Haifa • The number of reports to the municipal hotline is soaring • Spring 2025

(haipo) – Data from the report on the project to reduce conflict with the wild boar population in the city, published by the municipality (May 2025), indicates that during the month of April 2025, 201 pig sightings were recorded by the municipal inspectorate, a decrease compared to previous months, but at the same time there was a significant increase in the number of calls from residents to the 106 hotline, which reached 925 calls, of which 567 were direct reports of the presence of pigs.

It is important to remember that the return of the pigs and their offspring from the wadis occurs every year in the spring, after the calving season.

Wild boars roaming between houses

The Haifa system continues to receive many inquiries from residents, including documentation and photos of wild boars roaming between houses and on neighborhood streets. Many residents express concern about the renewal of the previous trend, during which wild boars became a permanent and widespread presence throughout the city. This concern was also raised in previous articles published on the site.

The report shows that during April, the municipality carried out approximately 298 dedicated field patrols dealing with wild boar encounters. The inspection teams handled 110 reports out of those received at the municipal hotline. There was also an increase in the activity of the veterinary department, with 56 treatments carried out, including, among other things, euthanasia, marking, and monitoring of individuals.

For the first time, 9 reports were also recorded this month from the nearby city of Nesher, evidence that the phenomenon is not exclusive to Haifa. The reports from Nesher were concentrated in neighborhoods adjacent to Haifa, such as Ramot Yitzhak and Givat Nesher, which indicates the need for cooperation between authorities to address the phenomenon.

One of the main actions being taken is bringing forward the emptying of bins to the afternoon and evening hours, an action that was recently carried out in many neighborhoods in the city, including Nosh, Carmel, Hadar (especially Hadar Elyon), Ramot, and parts of the west of the city.

Decrease in the number of overturned bins

Another interesting statistic: In April 2025, only 30 cases of bins being knocked over by pigs were recorded in the city, a sharp decrease compared to April 2024, when 250 cases were recorded. This is a decrease that indicates a direct impact of the sanitation interface on the behavior of the pigs, and a significant reduction in conflict.

However, about half of the current cases occurred in three main neighborhoods – Ramat Alon, Ramat Shaul and Ramot Tishbi – all of which border Wadi Lotem. Over the coming month, the municipality is expected to conduct a thorough examination of the pigs’ access routes from the wadi areas to the neighborhoods.

Definitions close the loopholes – literally.

Since 2021, fences and gates have been deployed throughout the city to block the entry of pigs. Recently, fencing has been completed in many neighborhoods, including Danya, Ramat Begin, Hod Carmel and Ramat Eshkol, along with many other streets. A 100-meter-long fence was also erected at the western end of Nahal Lotem.

A tour conducted at the end of April identified 27 problem areas in the fences, including 10 breaches, broken gates, fences that need to be raised, and even cases of deliberate vandalism by residents. The municipality emphasizes that public cooperation is essential – the gates must remain closed, and removing fences endangers all residents.

27 unruly pigs were eliminated

Such unruly pigs that are not afraid of contact with humans continue to pose a real risk to public safety. During April, 27 such pigs were treated, slightly more than in March 2025. Some were even caught acting aggressively to obtain food. The municipality emphasizes that there is an increase in the volume of pigs entering neighborhoods in larger groups, especially at night.

Observation Map – Kiryat Eliezer Rosh

During April, 392 reports of pig sightings were recorded, similar to the previous month, but still a decrease of about 20% compared to the average of the last three years. Among the neighborhoods leading in reports: Ahuza, Kiryat Eliezer, Hadar, and the German Colony.

Extensive feeding activity is evident in Kiryat Eliezer, which is likely responsible for the high number of sightings in the area. Therefore, the municipality recommends increasing outreach and enforcement activities in the neighborhood in order to reduce uncontrolled feeding and break the cycle that invites wild boars into urban areas.

  1. When Kalisz built fences in Udine and killed pigs, the press insisted on its hind legs that it was violating citizens' freedom of movement.
What does Jonah give them so they won't publish anything against him?

  2. They took down a mountain of oil in the direction of the entrance to the wild boar house. Every day, they take down rocks, stones, soil, and everything except the entrance to the house. A green garden with grass. They took up all the grass. I have no grass, I have no flowers. Everything is ruined. This is what is happening on Hulda Street 7*9-11.

  3. What about sterilization? A simple solution that will save a lot of time, money and inspectors. You don't need 100%, 70% is enough and you will feel the relief. But those who blindly follow a few crazy people who think they are nature lovers and will save the world, then they should continue like fools to find useless solutions. If only it were discovered that pigs have some disease that is contagious to people, you would be able to solve the problem within a week.

  4. Stupid.
There is no effective fence against wild boars. They are very strong and intelligent animals that can break through almost any fence. You need a fence like the one in Gaza to stop them.
The only fence stopping her is a barn fence. It's a low barrage line, ten centimeters high, that delivers a strong electric shock at low voltage.
This is the fence that keeps cattle in the barns and it stops wild boars very effectively.
There is a fence like this that surrounds the Mount Meron Field School. It is what keeps pigs from entering the school, even though herds of forty animals sometimes roam along its perimeter fence.

  5. They turned rocks into our yard and dragged bags.
Garbage in the yard destroyed vegetation, definitely a serious nuisance

  6. Why are you complaining about the children and grandchildren of your mayor?
I just feel sorry for you, but on the other hand, you deserve this. You chose a pig and got his family.
    Have fun with his children

  7. The dilution was very successful.
The facts on the ground are that there are no longer any overturned bins and there is no nuisance of giant pigs in neighborhood parks.
All the animal activists were hugely mistaken, and the successful dilution proved them wrong.
What is needed is to increase the dilution and not allow hundreds more female Boadies to have litters.

    • Pshhhh, how they engineered you is unbelievable.
The Tel Avivians pushed the pigs into your nature protection law hahahahahaha the left will throw you out of your houses and bring in pigs
      Wait a few more years.
They will force you to raise them.
      Haifa is seriously ill

  8. Those who voted for him because he said there would be no more pigs still don't admit they were wrong. Those who said the stupid slogan that he did nothing are now accepting the terrible destruction of nature for the benefit of real estate, huge fuel farms, more expensive parking, more expensive property taxes. Because he does. He approves the establishment of new neighborhoods because he thinks that another hundred thousand residents will come here. In reality, the city has been unable to keep the thousands who are fleeing here for decades. Those who thought that the man who was a bad mayor for 15 years would suddenly become a good mayor, I have no words.

    • Who will live in Haifa, ugh, a city of pigs and Arabs?
And chemicals and toxins in the air
You live in a movie about cancer.
Whoever wants to die will come to Haifa.

    • Pigs are not healthy in a civilian environment. They should be deported to the forests and villages in the north or slaughtered for our meat because Muslims and Jews do not eat pigs.

  9. You continue the campaign of slander and pushing for the murder of innocent animals. All their sin is that they robbed them of their place of livelihood and source of food.
Is the city already crime-free? Are there violators in places where driving slows down? Are the city's dog parks appropriate? Are the streets clean enough?
You should focus on what's really important and leave the poor pigs alone!!!!

    • Go fuck yourself Tel Avivian trash 💩 Unhappy, you won't have a place to live for a while, you trash.

  10. Nature is stronger than anything. Murder will not help.
There are other ways to act.
Leave them and us alone and don't examine the state of affairs. Your examination - does not contribute. And does not help. Quite the contrary.

    • A complete lie.
There are no other ways to act.
We have to dilute it more, that's all.

  11. How wonderful it's been a long time since we had pigs. There are mice, rats, cockroaches, roaches, foxes, sometimes you also see porcupines, jackals, and hedgehogs wandering around here. Be careful, the most dangerous animal is humans.

    • There are few things more urgent to thin out in the city than the pigs.
Alek "dilutes" the dirty language of the brutal slaughter of pigs in the streets and leaving them to die for hours by a barbaric and failed municipality.
There are lots of ways to solve the problem of pigs without killing them! Look at what they're doing at Tivon! All you need is a little goodwill and minimal planning and execution skills. Probably bigger than Yona Yahav.
      Don't cooperate with this horror.
