The small airport that makes big waves • Everything you need to know about arriving, parking and flying from Haifa

(live here) – Haifa Airport is currently experiencing a significant increase in the number of flights and passengers. More and more Israelis are discovering the convenience of flying from the local airport, located in the heart of Haifa Bay, and prefer it over the busy options in the center of the country. In light of this awakening, it is important to know the ways to get to the airport and the parking options available there, in order to arrive comfortably and take off on time without traffic jams, without searching for parking, and without unnecessary surprises.

Public, private transportation and parking

In terms of public transportation, the airport is not directly connected to a train line, but is a short drive from three major stations, specifically Lev Hamifratz, Hotzout Hamifratz, and Kiryat Haim. Passengers arriving by train will be able to continue from there by special taxi, private car, or direct bus.

The public transportation service to the airport includes two main lines: Line 100, which is actually a fast and direct line (shuttle) that departs every half hour from platform 24 at the Lev Hamifratz Central Station and arrives directly at the airport without stops along the way.

The line returns on the same route from the field back to the central station. Full information can be obtained on the Egged website or from the service center 2800*.

Parking near the Haifa airport terminal

Passengers who prefer to arrive by private car will enjoy particularly convenient parking: in front of the terminal is a lighted and fenced parking lot with about 100 parking spaces. Parking is free of charge, and you can leave your car there for several days, based on availability.

Inside the lot, free luggage carts await passengers for free use, a particularly convenient solution for travelers with a lot of luggage. It is important to know that according to police guidelines, parking or waiting in front of the terminal is strictly prohibited, even for the purpose of dropping off or picking up passengers. Anyone arriving to pick up relatives must park their vehicle in the parking lot only.

With the increase in passenger traffic, it is recommended to arrive at the airport at least an hour and a half before your flight time, and to check the flight and transportation times in advance. Haifa Airport is small, but it currently offers an accessible, relaxed and pleasant flight experience from the ground to the air.

Duty-Free-Haifa (photo by the Airports Authority)

And what about duty free?

As you may recall, in 2017, with the launch of new international flight routes from Haifa Airport to destinations such as Athens, Rhodes and Kos as part of the implementation of the "Open Skies" reform, there was an unprecedented increase of approximately 655% in passenger traffic on international flights from the airport. Following this momentum, an impressive duty-free area of approximately 300 square meters was opened at the airport, offering a wide range of products: cosmetics and perfumes, alcoholic beverages and wines, cigarettes and tobacco products, electronics, optics and more.

However, after a short period of time, with the decline in international and domestic flight activity, the closures brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, and the airport shutdown, the duty-free complex was also forced to close its doors. Now, with the airport's revival and renewed prosperity, we wanted to check what happened to the duty-free and whether it will reopen. According to an investigation we conducted with the Airports Authority, we were informed that the complex is currently in the tender process.

We hope to soon see the reopening of the duty-free shop, which will complete the travel experience at the local airport and make it even more pleasant and attractive.

  1. Congratulations on the prosperity of the modest and functional airport. It is certainly a great joy for the residents of Haifa and north of it to fly from it.
Saves a lot of time on the country's roads for all residents of the north.
I hope it continues to thrive and that the number of destinations continues to expand💫

  2. Duty-free is never cheaper. There is a very high rent at Ben Gurion Airport that they have to pay and they do it by increasing the price of products, only the price is in dollars, and then who has the strength to check how much it is in shekels and then compare it with the price of it in a store in Israel. All perfumes are 50-100 shekels more expensive. An additional premium for fools in the mood for waste.

    • If the Minister of Transportation had common sense and common sense, she would have chosen the Haifa airport as Israel's second international airport, with a relatively small investment, taking care to extend the runways into the sea (after the sea areas are dried up), for an appropriate transportation infrastructure, to and from the airport...
And not deciding on a second white elephant in the south (in Nevatim), in addition to the existing one, in Ramon.

  3. Great field. Shortens our ability to fly to nearby destinations. When do flights to Greece open?

  4. I have flown back and forth to Greece and Cyprus several times over the past two months. I have greatly enjoyed the ease and service. I wish the company to develop and remain easy and pleasant to use in this field and this company... go ahead and succeed.

  5. Dear Smadar, Egged's line 58, which used to travel from the Gulf Central Station to Kiryat Ata, was canceled about 12 years ago. Today, line 58 is operated by the Superbus company and departs from the Gulf Central Station to Dalit El Carmel and does not reach the airport. From an experienced writer like you, I would expect to check things before writing them. And for passengers, there are 2 more lines that reach the airport: 18A and 18, which depart from the Kiryat Ata intersection every 30 to 20 minutes.

  6. You might think there's a bargain on duty. Check carefully before purchasing there. Don't be surprised if you find what you're looking for cheaper in town.
