Abed in Haifa: Ra'if Abu Al-Hija, 13, killed in ATV accident – one of three children killed since the beginning of the year

Mourners in Haifa following the death of the child Ra'if Muhammad Abu Al-Hija who was killed in an ATV accident • 3 children have lost their lives since the beginning of the year

(live here) – Last Thursday (8/5/25), Ra'if Muhammad Abu Al-Hija, a 13-year-old boy and a sixth-grade student at Al-Karma Elementary School in Haifa, was killed in a tragic ATV accident. His sudden death left behind a grieving family, shocked friends, and an entire community in deep mourning.

According to data from the Pre-Child Safety Organization: In 2025, 3 children lost their lives in ATV accidents. The data also shows that in the last decade (2015-2024), 26 children lost their lives in ATV accidents. In the last decade, 232 cases of injuries in ATV accidents reached hospital emergency rooms.

Immediately after the news of Ra'if's death was announced, the Hadash faction in the city council issued an emotional condolence message, which read: "With deep pain and sorrow, we express our sincere condolences to the dear Abu El-Hija family in Haifa and Ein Hod, on the passing of their beloved Ra'if Muhammad Abu El-Hija. We share in the grief of Ra'if's parents, family members, friends and teachers, and pray that God will have mercy on Ra'if's soul and grant his family the strength, comfort and patience to deal with the endless pain."

A curious, smiling, and beloved child

The Al-Karma School administration team also issued a touching statement: "With a heavy heart, we announce the death of our beloved student, Ra'if Muhammad Abu Al-Hija from grade 2. Ra'if was a curious, smiling boy who was loved by his friends and teachers. His sudden passing is a great loss for all of us, students, educational staff, and parents. We send hugs and support to his family at this difficult time, and pray that he finds peace in heaven."

Alkarma Elementary School took an educational and sensitive approach in light of the difficult event, and gave parents instructions on how to help their children cope with grief and sorrow: convey calmness, believe in the children's ability to cope, and serve as an example of healthy coping. Explain to children what happened in simple language, and avoid exposure to difficult images or videos. Maintaining a regular routine gives children a sense of security. Allow children to express their feelings in creative ways such as writing, drawing, or praying. If unusual and persistent symptoms such as withdrawal or nightmares appear, it is recommended to seek professional counseling.

"We bow our heads in memory of Ra'if, a happy, lively boy who was loved by all of us. We ask God to grant peace to his family and strengthen the hearts of all of us in these difficult moments," they wrote at the end of the message. May his memory be blessed.

  1. When is a 13-year-old allowed to ride an ATV?
And don't tell me everyone rides, the police don't enforce,
And this is what remains in the end: a dead child!

  2. Condolences to the family, who knew no more grief.

ATVs and those who drive them should be banned, especially children. Besides the enormous danger, this is a terrible environmental hazard.
It's good to provide support to grieving school children, it's important to take advantage of the opportunity and dissuade them from using this terrible and unnecessary tool.

  3. Parents let their children drive irresponsibly and that's the price. Don't cry for him, cry for yourselves. You are killing your children with your own hands.

  4. What is?
    Who is?
    What is this exaggeration?
People die every day in Haifa.
Why don't they have articles like this???
This is a joke, I didn't know these communist clowns still existed.
Stalin is turning in his grave

  5. Sad to hear, may his memory be blessed. I'm not a mother, but I would give up on children riding ATVs, it's a little scary. Condolences.

  6. The criminal rampage throughout Haifa, day or night, on two-wheeled vehicles is horrifying. There are improved motorcycles on Hagana Boulevard in Haifa, as well as ATVs driven by children.

  7. Sorry, the coastal road is flooded with tractors and what I was very surprised about was that children were driving tractors. It's time for the police to stop patrolling the coastal road because they hang around there. Don't make claims against the police, they're not their parents. They gave them a dangerous vehicle to drive without licenses. Very scary
