A shock to education in Haifa: The CEOs of the Municipal and Alliance schools announced today the termination of their employment

(live here) – The CEOs of the six-year Ironi H. and Alliance schools, Hagit Levy and Ram Shmueli, announced today that they will be terminating their positions at the end of the school year. Surprisingly, the two principals who announced their termination today want to go out and help with the reconstruction of the Galilee.

In an emotional letter to parents, Levy shared her feelings about the end of a significant and accomplished period in the last nine years, and noted that she intends to continue her educational work in the Galilee, where she intends to take part in the reconstruction of the region after the months of fighting in the north.

Levy announces the end of her position at the end of the year

Levy, who served as the CEO of Ironi H for nine years, informed parents today in a personal letter that she will be leaving her position at the end of the current school year. In her letter, she wrote: "After 9 very intense and meaningful years as the CEO of the school, I am excited to say that next year I will embark on a new path. For 9 years, I have worked with the school staff for the students, for the school, and for the community."

According to her, the years at Irouni H were filled with educational activities, developing values, promoting academic achievements, and leading significant changes in the school environment.

Educational and ethical achievements for the school

In the letter, Levy proudly noted the achievements of Irony H., which is considered one of the leading schools in Haifa: "The educational space of Irony H. High School has achieved excellent achievements, both academically and ethically. We won the District Education Award as an outstanding school and we are also candidates for the national award."

In recent years, the school has led extensive pedagogical processes, focusing on promoting young leadership, sharing students' responsibility for their learning, and developing innovative educational programs that advance the school's students to a better professional and social future.

Upgrading educational infrastructure and improving the learning experience at school

The school administration, in close cooperation with the Haifa Municipality, the Ministry of Education and the Parents' Committee, has invested heavily in upgrading the learning environment. "We have made a great effort to upgrade the appearance of the school to make it more suitable for learning and student residence today. Good examples of this are the new library, innovative learning spaces, laboratories and outdoor spaces," Levy wrote to parents. "These upgrades are intended to provide students with a learning space adapted to the modern era, which improves both their academic achievements and their sense of belonging and comfort in the educational institution."

A professional and committed educational team: the key to success

The success of Ironi H. would not have been possible without the dedicated teamwork of all the school's employees, Levy emphasized in her letter: "The school's success stems from the serious, professional work and commitment of the teachers, educators, centers, counselors, administrative staff and management team." She expressed confidence that the school will continue to flourish and lead in the field of education in the future, thanks to the outstanding staff members who lead it every day.

From the Galilee to Haifa – and from education in the Galilee to renewed activity

In the letter, the principal noted that she chose to continue her educational path in the Galilee, where she also built her home and raised her children. According to her, the reconstruction of the Galilee after the war is a significant challenge in which she would like to take part: "Now, after 9 years, it is time to embark on a new path. Many years ago, I established my home in the beautiful Galilee and raised my children there. The reconstruction of the Galilee after the war is an important challenge in my eyes and I would like to take part in it. Education is an inseparable part of my life and I know that I will continue to dream and do education wherever I am."

Unusual events that led to public attention to the school

In recent weeks, Eironi H. has made headlines for two unusual incidents: The first occurred when a stand for placing tefillin was set up outside the school. A passing citizen confronted a student who was placing tefillin, and a verbal argument led to a physical confrontation. The second incident occurred in the school's middle school, when one of the students, during a conversation with the principal, tried to reach for the principal's gun. Both incidents caused a local media storm, but did not overshadow the school's impressive achievements.

In any case, the school continued to consistently present pedagogical and social achievements every year. Irony H is now considered one of the most respected educational institutions in Haifa. Whether in the areas of studies and graduation or in the development of values, leadership and social involvement, the school represents a progressive educational vision and succeeds in combining academic achievements with the instillation of significant social values.

Alliance CEO also announced the end of his role

Alliance High School CEO Ram Shmueli announced today that he is ending his work at the school at the end of the school year. Shmueli took office 3 years ago and replaced the retiring CEO Michal Gal. For the first two years, he was acting and only in August 2024 was he elected the official principal of the school.

Shmueli, who was in the Haifa education system for five years and has served as CEO of Alliance High School for the past three years, brought with him his beliefs in education - ground and sky. Ram, together with his team, implemented a value-based and innovative educational discourse, pedagogical entrepreneurship and a connection to the roots, identity and Zionist values. Shmueli also announced his desire to embark on an educational mission in the Galilee - to take part in the reconstruction of the north, strengthen communities and build hope.
Alongside the great appreciation that the desire to take part in the restoration of the Galilee arouses, many hopes were pinned on Shmueli, when he arrived to manage the school only 3 years ago, and now it is once again necessary to establish a new search committee and let a new CEO take the first steps until the school is stable again under his leadership.

Ilana Truk: The Galilee has won two excellent managers

Ilana Truk, Head of the Education, Culture and Sports Administration in the Haifa Municipality: "We in Haifa had the great privilege of enjoying Hagit Varam. Their contribution to the education system and to the students is something that will accompany us for years to come. The Haifa city education system is proud and wishes Hagit Varam success. The Galilee has earned them."

Preparing for the appointment of a new director: Who will lead Ironi H and Alliance Kadima forward?

In a few weeks, the Ministry of Education is expected to publish a tender for the position of a new principal for Urban H and Alliance. In light of the status of the two schools in Haifa, it is expected that candidates with extensive educational and managerial experience will compete for them. The identity of the new principal will affect the continued development of the schools in the coming years, with the challenge being to continue the path of Levi and Shmueli and lead the schools to further achievements, both academically and socially.

  1. Wow! I was happy to read, I am a graduate of the second class (1967) of the school, I enjoyed studying there and I loved the school. Good luck,

  2. Dear Ram Shmueli,
You are a man of great rights with tremendous proven abilities.
I have every hope that you will lend your support not only to the reconstruction of the Galilee, but first and foremost to the replacement of the current government. Replacing the existing leadership with a worthy one will act as a positive snowball for the reconstruction of everything that was destroyed here.

  3. With all the appreciation for Ram Shmueli as a senior Air Force officer, a farmer, a man of values, and many other good things to say about him, he is not a school principal!
The current principal of the Alliance School, Ms. Hagit Falch Shrem Shmueli, is letting her do whatever she wants in the school, and she is a woman devoid of values, basic integrity, capable of lying to parents and children to their faces, lacking educational experience (she was previously the principal of Eshkol Pais), and woe to the school if she receives more authority or, God forbid, the management of the school.

  4. High school schools are organizations that must be managed professionally and cooperatively alongside pedagogical management. Under the principals, there is a high school principal and a high school principal who are responsible for managing the didactic and operational aspects. The principals are also responsible for managing the organizational, economic aspects and building a long-term development plan. In order for educational institutions like Alliance and Irony H, which provide a response to the thousands of youth who are educated in them, to succeed, an effective management system and quality administrators are needed. It is a pity that a similar concept for such a management system does not exist in elementary education.

Good luck to Hagit Levi and Ram Shmueli on their new path!

  5. Managers don't leave because everything is wonderful, so it's better to know the real reason instead of confusing it with an entire article about "educational work."

  6. There are principals for both divisions. For the middle school and the high school. It's not clear to me why a CEO is needed.

  7. Any connection between Hagit Levy and an educational figure is purely coincidental. I assume she is good at organization and management and hope that her integration into the Galilee reconstruction will be in this area.

  8. A school is not a business or a factory.
What is a CEO? In our time, they called it a manager. Stop confusing people's minds.
