(haipo) – Haifa Municipality Coast Guard lifeguards rescued four people who were swept away at sea this evening.
The lives of four bathers, who entered the sea this evening (Friday, 25/4/25) at an undeclared beach in Haifa, were saved thanks to the quick response of the municipal beach department teams.
The four, who went swimming in the evening, began to drift in the strong currents and had difficulty returning to shore on their own. After realizing that their situation was worsening, they began calling for help from vacationers on the beach.
The municipal enforcement department inspector, Mahmoud Amash, who was at the student beach nearby at the time, recognized what was happening and quickly informed the municipal beach department's chief of staff, Mike Diby. The latter acted quickly, contacted the police coast guard, and called lifeguards Rauf and Youssef Atallah, who had finished their shift about an hour earlier and were at home.
The two arrived at the scene within minutes, jumped into the water, and began rescue operations. A soldier from the Bedouin Reconnaissance Battalion, who was on the beach at the time, came to their aid. The soldier took off his clothes, jumped into the water, and managed to rescue two of the drowning men on his own.
At the end of the event, all four were rescued safely, and excitedly thanked the rescuers and the soldier for saving their lives.
Deputy Director of the Coastal Division, Rita Sassi, told the paper:
"I thank the rescue team who acted quickly and decisively and saved lives. This is an important reminder to all of us – do not enter the sea after the lifeguards have finished their work. Remember: do not enter the sea without lifeguard supervision. It is dangerous and could cost lives."
