Tirat Carmel Mayor Dudu Cohen at the "March of the Living" in Poland: "Auschwitz is not just a lesson from the past, it is a warning sign for the future. We are obligated to continue educating the next generation, so that they will never forget." Tirat Carmel Mayor Dudu Cohen participated on Thursday, 24/5/25, in the "March of the Living," which took place every year at the Auschwitz extermination camp in Poland.
"I stand here today as part of a large delegation of mayors from Israel - but primarily as a representative of the city of Tirat Carmel and its residents," said Mayor Dudu Cohen at the end of the ceremony held at the Auschwitz camp. "Today we walked on land soaked in blood and tears, in a place where they tried to destroy our people. But this time we do not stand here as victims, but as sons of an independent and strong nation, with an ancient heritage of values, faith and hope."

"Auschwitz is not just a historical site or a lesson from the past – it is a warning sign for the future and a moral call that we must protect our own freedom to choose a life of values, responsibility and mutual guarantee. On behalf of the residents of Tirat Carmel and as a son of the Jewish people, I feel a deep obligation to pass this story on, to remember the six million, to honor the survivors and to educate the next generation so that they will never forget."

This year, dozens of Holocaust survivors led the parade alongside President Isaac Herzog and President of Poland Andrzej Duda to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the extermination camp. A delegation of survivors of October 7 also participated in the parade, and the closing ceremony was attended by captive survivor Agam Berger, who played an antique violin that belonged to a victim who perished; and Daniel Weiss, who lost both of his parents in the Kibbutz Be'ere massacre.
