At the beginning of the Seder night, where "...this night we are all together..." - it is appropriate to refer to the word "party", and in doing so, to the concept: "press conference".
According to the common definition, a party is a social event where guests gather to celebrate some event, or to spend time together, usually of a festive and joyful nature. This includes a sleepover party, a cocktail party, a surprise party, a tea party or a bachelorette party, and there is also a farewell party, which is usually sad.
And now, not on us, a cruel, chilling, tragic event occurs. Then we are informed that a police officer is holding a press conference, in which he recounts to journalists the details of the case and its dire consequences. And then the question arises: for this reason – what is she doing? Is it time to celebrate, for God's sake? Of course, that is not what is meant.
A reason is also other things. The root is מסב and has several meanings: to turn, to turn aside, to give satisfaction or displeasure. And also to turn the head or to turn the attention. מסב is also the transfer of ownership of a deed, a transfer or delivery. Job says: "And he for reasons overturns in his schemes" (Job, chapter 12, verse 29). Whereas King Solomon, the builder of the Temple, acts like this: "And all the walls of the house he carved with carvings of cherubims..." ("XNUMX Kings, chapter XNUMX, verse XNUMX).
"The King in His Misfortune"
"To sit" means, in the language of the Sages, to sit in the seat - leaning on the left hand, as is the custom of kings and nobles. "The king in his seat", in the language of the Song of Songs, means: the king when he sits. And in the language of the Midrash - "children of a party" are those who join together for a common event.
And in the coming days – also to sit around the table. The author Uri Nissan Gensin writes in his story: "A Feast Breaks": "The hall is full. To the long table, arranged with flowers and strange bottles, young men and decorated young women gather." And in the Passover Haggadah it is written: "That on all nights we eat, whether sitting or reclining. This night we are all reclining." And this gathering is certainly what is meant when a "press conference" is announced, and good news is expected from it...
